Petoskey edges TC West, 82-81

PETOSKEY Petoskey's Jenny Webb won the 100 and 200 meter dashes as the Lady Northmen won three of four relays to edge Traverse City West 82-81 Tuesday.
Webb won the 100 in 13.74 and the 200 in 28.51.
Sierra Breithaupt won twice for the Titans, taking the long jump (14'5) and shot put (28').

Youth prevailed Tuesday.
Traverse City Central, with just two seniors on the roster, beat Alpena 123-9 in a Big North Conference girls track meet.
Freshman Maren Bahra won three events for the Trojans. She claimed the long jump (15'5), 400 (1:06.41) and 100 (13.39).

Benzie Central wins six-team meet
Alana Holbrook won the discus (84'3) and Benzie claimed the 3200 and 800 relays (10:32.15 and 1:58.98) to take a six-team girls meet at Glen Lake.
The Huskies had 130 points, Suttons Bay 109, Manton 103, Glen Lake 95, TC Christian 48, Grand Traverse Academy 22.

Traverse City Central won all 17 events in beating Alpena 157-7 in a Big North Conference boys track meet.
Trevor Glick won three events for the Trojans 110 high hurdles (16.97), 300 hurdles (44.28) and long jump (18'9&1/2).

Seth Ankerson had a hand in four victories, but Petoskey edged TC West 90-69 in a Big North Conference dual meet.
Ankerson won the 400 (53.2) and 1600 (4:34). He was also on two winning relays for the Titans.

Morris, Swinehart spark Manton to victory
Darren Morris swept the hurdles (17.10 in the 110 highs and 44.52 in the 300 lows) and Justin Swinehart captured the 100 (11.66) and high jump (5'9) as Manton won a six-team boys meet at Glen Lake.
The Rangers finished with 190 points, Benzie 171, Suttons Bay 81, Glen Lake 63, Grand Traverse Academy 7, Traverse City Christian 7.

TC Central opened Big North play by sweeping Petoskey by identical 4-2 scores.
Kevin Krantz got the save in both games, the first in relief of Josh Pilarski and the second after Jordan Hall.
Casey Lundy (two runs), Brandon Goff (two doubles, two RBIs), Derek Diekman and Pilarski had two hits and Krantz a solo homer in game one. Ian Prokes and Diekman had two hits in game two.
Kingsley 14 8

Dan Taylor did a little bit of everything for the Kingsley baseball team.
Taylor was the winning pitcher in both games as the Stags swept Manton, 14-4 and 8-4.
He was 5 for 5 at the plate in the opener, hitting for the cycle with six RBIs and two runs.
Grant Putala and Rob Szasz (RBI) added two hits for Kingsley (4-1, 2-0 Northwest).
Taylor had a single, double and scored three runs in the nightcap. Trevor Schaub had three hits and John Bodjack scored twice.
Suttons Bay 8 10
Glen Lake 7 2
Suttons Bay drew 22 walks to take two from Glen Lake, 8-7 and 10-2.
Kris Marin had two hits and Josh Feickert a double to back a seven-strikeout performance from Anthony Stewart in the nightcap. Weston Buchan, KC Novak and Kyle Klumpp had two hits for Glen Lake.
Feickert struck out 11 in game one for Suttons Bay. Josh Garber had four hits (two doubles) and four RBIs while Buchan, Klumpp (two RBIs), Novak and Joey Galla had two hits for the Lakers (0-4, 0-2 Northwest).
Elk Rapids 10 10

Brandon Isenhart (eight strikeouts) and Zach Dreffs (seven) tossed two-hitters as Elk Rapids swept Grayling, 10-0 and 10-3.
Peter Shugart had three hits, including a three-run homer, and Nick Rausch two hits in the nightcap.
Shugart had three hits and five RBIs in the opener. Garrett Gribi and Ian Sliger added two hits.

Chris Tondu and Alex Stieve had two hits apiece to back the pitching of Dan Haigh as Frankfort beat Mesick 9-2 in the nightcap of a Northwest Conference twinbill.
Mesick won the opener 9-8. Stieve had three hits and Haigh two for the Panthers.
Mancelona 3 0

Cody Sehl hurled a one-hit shutout in the first game as Mancelona defeated Alanson 3-0.
Kodi Balhorn scored two runs and Greg Blanco had three steals and five putouts at shortstop for the Ironmen.
The Vikings returned the favor with a 3-0 win in the second contest. Mancelona pitcher Zack Squires allowed only one hit and the Ironmen left 11 runners in scoring position.
East Jordan 9 5

East Jordan used a four-run sixth inning to rally for a 9-6 win over Charlevoix in the opener, then used a five-run third to win the nightcap 5-2.
Leading the host Rayders were Jon Putman (2 doubles, 3 runs, 2 RBI) and Cliff Jones (2 hits, 2 runs) in the first game and J.D. Speigl (2 hits, RBI), R.J. Moore (2 hits, RBI) and Ty Telgenhof (3 innings of no-hit relief).
Glen Lake 11 15

Danielle Noonan and Cori Kahler pitched Glen Lake to a pair of Northwest Conference victories over Suttons Bay, 11-1 and 15-0.
The two combined on a one-hitter in the opener and a three-hitter in the nightcap.
Noonan and Lauren Pleva drove in two runs apiece in game one. Annie Lang and Erica Easter added two hits.
Lang drove in three runs in the nightcap. Lauren Pleva contributed two hits and two RBI's. Kristen Pleva added three hits and scored four runs. Noonan and Kahler drove in two runs.

Petoskey rapped out 20 hits in a 9-4, 6-4 sweep of Traverse City Central.
Courtney Doernenburg and Tori Premo had three hits each to pace Petoskey's 16-hit attack in the opener.
Leading Central were Kelsey Sovereign (2 doubles, 2 RBI), Sierra Soden (2 hits), Rachel Cook (RBI) and Dori Lansbach (RBI).
Stacee Bonnee's two hits led Petoskey in game two. Sovereign doubled twice, scored twice and batted in two runs for the Trojans. Emily Tomei also drove in a run.
Frankfort 13 11

Jenny Elliott tossed a perfect game and a no-hitter as Frankfort opened with a sweep of Mesick, 13-1 and 11-0.
Elliott struck out 14 of the 15 batters she faced in the nightcap. Nicole Marshall had two doubles while Brenna Banktson and Bree Beyette had one. Laney Eubanks and Elliott added two hits.
Elliott struck out 14 in the opener and led off the game with a solo home run. Marshall and Kayla Jensen added two hits and Laney Edwards a double.
Mancelona 7 8

Brooke Orman hurled a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the opener and Shylo Homan hurled a one-hitter with six strikeouts in the nightcap as Mancelona opened the season with 7-0, 8-4 sweep of Alanson.
Homan and Maggie Shanahan each doubled in two runs in the first game, while Theresa Petersen scored twice.
Homan had two hits, two steals and two runs in the second game. Orman also had two hits, while Stephanie Adams scored two runs.
Elk Rapids 6 13
Grayling 5 7
Elk Rapids swept a Lake Michigan Conference doubleheader from Grayling, 6-5 and 13-7.
No Elk Rapids information was reported.
Pacing Grayling were Alyssa Lewis (2-for-3) and Sam Schreiber (home run) in the first game and Babby Calkins (2-4) and Joni Bindschatel (2 runs) in the second.

Traverse City Central opened Big North Conference play with a 4-0 win over Cadillac.
Emma Berger, Kari Buckel, Katie Clayton and Jackie Jessup tallied for the Trojans (2-0-1). Berger and Abby Boursaw added assists. Alyssa Boudros was in goal for the Trojans. It was 1-0 at half.
Cadillac won the JV game 4-0.

Jennifer Harig had two goals and two assists as Benzier Central beat Pentwater 5-2 for its first win of the season.
Cherise Radionoff, Taylor Nugent and Ashley Addis added goals. Jessica Barker had two assists and Molly Willette-Green one for the Huskies (1-2).

Franki Price had the shutout in net as Elk Rapids opened its season with a 2-0 triumph over Kalkaska.
Olivia Morrison and Hannah Wittbrodt had the goals for the Elks.

Maddisen Coil had two goals, one on a free kick, as TC West won the JV game, 3-0. Caitlin Lynch had goal and an assist and Alyse Tucker and Taylor Russ had the shutout in net for West (2-0).
TC St. Francis 6

Four Traverse City St. Francis players were straight-set singles winners in a 6-2 win over Charlevoix.
Notching singles wins for St. Francis were Ben Schippers (6-0, 6-2), John Jurkas (6-1, 7-5), Dan Fisher (6-4, 6-2) and Will Elliott (6-2, 6-1).
Also winning for the Gladiators (2-0, 2-0 Lake Michigan Conference) were David Eddington and Cam McCardel, 7-5, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles, and Ryan White and Ben Wheelock, 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 at No. 4 doubles.
Charlevoix took two doubles matches. Justin Clooster and Trevor Mays were 6-0, 7-5 winners at No. 1, while Brad Cyr and Chris Bartling were 7-5, 6-3 winners at No. 2.

Elk Rapids swept four doubles matches and defeated Grayling 7-1 for its first victory of the season.
The Elks (1-2, 1-1 Lake Michigan Conference) received doubles wins from Ryan Agruda and Spencer Riebow, 7-5, 7-6 at No. 1; Greg Manley and Sam Wittbrodt, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2; Andy Paulosky and Garrett Peters, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3; and Alex Bethke and Nick Ziglione, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4.
Elk Rapids singles winners were Aaron Mayes, 6-1, 6-0 at No.1; Dan Werth, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3; and Cory Messingschlager, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4.
Grayling's Scott Olson won 7-6, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
