Elk Rapids tops host Frankfort to claim baseball tournament title

FRANKFORT — Elk Rapids scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back Saturday en route to a 16-4 win over Frankfort in the finals of the Frankfort Invitational.

Zach Dreffs pitched the first four innings for the win. Garrett Gribi and Peter Shugart pounded out two hits apiece and scored twice for the Elks (4-0). Gribi also drove in two runs and Shugart one. Nate Peck scored three times.

Elk Rapids advanced with a 5-4 win over Mason County Eastern. Brandon Isenhart notched the win with two innings of relief. Dreffs was the hitting hero, collecting two hits and driving in two runs.

Frankfort blanked Onekama 7-0 behind Max Banktson's one-hitter. Banktson struck out eight. Alex Stieve belted a grand slam in the third inning for the Panthers (3-3). Devin Gokey added two hits.

Mason County Eastern edged Onekama for third, 4-3.
