Dryden also scored the first goal for the Liberty off an assist from Julie Doherty. Lindsay Baic tallied for Boyne City on a penalty kick. Leah Beemer was in goal for the Liberty (2-1), who received strong play from mid-fielder Jessica Hager. Harbor Springs 3 Three different players scored as Harbor Springs edged Elk Rapids 3-2. Anna Causley, Olivia Morrison and Hannah Parish scored goals for the Rams, who dropped the Elks to 2-2 on the season. Jenna Hubbell added an assist. (*)Charlevoix 7 Ariel Ramsey had two goals and two assists and Zita Anderson had a shutout as Charlevoix defeated Lake Michigan Conference rival Kalkaska 7-0. Lori Zimmerman, Olivia Catt, Becca Madison and Breanna Londgren added goals for the Rayders (4-0), who travel to Traverse City to play the Liberty on Thursday. Houghton Lake 3 Houghton Lake scored 13 minutes into the second overtime to deny Forest Area its first win of the season, 3-2. Cassie McGee scored twice for the Warriors (0-4), who travel to Roscommon on Wednesday. Emily Pojar assisted on McGee's first goal, while her second, with three minutes left in regulation, was unassisted. Tina Preston made 27 saves in goal for Forest Area. Malynda Robinson and Katie Moran were also standouts. SOFTBALL TC Central 7, 10 Sierra Soden pitched a four-hitter as Traverse City Central blanked Lake Leelanau St. Mary 7-0 in the opener of a doubleheader. Soden also led the Trojan attack with four hits. Emily Burke added two hits. Central (5-4) won the nightcap 10-3 as Soden had two hits and three RBIs. Barbara Burke, Kelsey Sovereign and Jessica Hoffman all had three hits. Burke scored twice. Allison Korson and Ashley Herman led St. Mary's (1-5) with two hits. Kalkaska 4, 6 Marissa Taylor pitched a no-hitter, striking out 11, as Kalkaska beat Houghton Lake 4-2 in the opener of a twinbill. Kara Ponstein led the Blazers with three hits. She also drove in three runs. Janelle Slater added two hits. Ponstein pitched a four-hitter in the nightcap as the Blazers (5-1) won 6-1. Ponstein helped her own cause with three hits and two RBIs. Taylor added two hits and drove in a run. Pellston 8, 11 Pellston improved to 6-0 with 8-2 and 11-2 victories over Ski Valley Conference rival Central Lake. Dove Lieber was the winning pitcher in game one, Megan Bodzick in game two. Jill McNitt led the offense with four hits, including two doubles. Holly Burkhart and Caitlyn Spencley added three hits. Burkhart had two triples. Tricia Joyce had two hits for Central Lake (3-3) in the second game, while Jessica Spence doubled. Benzie Central 5, 2 Biri Luna had three hits to back the pitching of Christa Nesky and lead Suttons Bay to a 5-2 win over Benzie Central in the second game of a non-league doubleheader. Nesky struck out eight and also helped herself with a single and double, while Katie Joupperi contributed a double. Benzie scored in the bottom of the sixth inning to win the opener 5-4. Adriane Kline was the winning pitcher, while Lorraine Schmidt (7 strikeouts) took the loss. Benzie's Jackie Frederick had two hits. TCSF JV 9, 11 Heather Larsen had two hits in each game as the Traverse City St. Francis junior varsity swept the TC West freshmen 9-4, 11-1. Rachel Overmire was the winning pitcher in the first game, allowing three hits and striking out nine. Taylor Lizenby went 3-for-3 in the second game to pace the Gladiators (4-0). Winning pitcher Amy Brunner hurled a two-hitter. She struck out four. BASEBALL Benzie 9, 11 Connor Nugent drove in three runs and Logan Schendel two as Benzie Central beat Suttons Bay 9-4 in the first game of a doubleheader. Micah Parshall was the winning pitcher. Anthony Stewart led Suttons Bay with two hits, including a home run. He drove in three. Jeff Ruthkowski also had two hits. Cory Baklarz fired a one-hit shutout in the nightcap as Benzie posted an 11-0 win. Nick Cooper and Josh Thaxton pounded out two hits for Benzie (2-4). Thaxton drove in two. Pellston 9, 6 Pellston swept a Ski Valley Conference doubleheader from Central Lake, 9-7 and 6-5. Luke Schmalzried was the winning pitcher in the opener. Jake Schmalzried led the Hornets with three hits. Luke Schmalzried added two. Jason Zulski hit a solo home run. In the nightcap, Justin Schlappi earned the win. He also drove in two runs as did Luke Schmalzried. Ridge Hahn had two hits for Pellston. Manistee CC 3, 5 Cameron Smith was the winning pitcher as Bear Lake edged Manistee Catholic Central 4-3 first of two games. The Sabres bounced back with a 5-4 win in the nightcap. TCW freshmen 10, 10 Led by the pitching of Trevor Tooley and Josh Kloosterman, the Traverse City West freshmen swept the TC St. Francis junior varsity 10-0, 10-1. Tooley struck out nine in his five-inning shutout in the opener. He was backed by the hitting of Steve Smiley (2 RBI) and Bryce Van Zale (2 runs). Kloosterman fanned five in his complete game performance in the nightcap as the Titans improved to 4-0. Pacing the offense were Kloosterman (double, RBI), Adam Wicker (double, RBI), Jamison Owens (2 runs) and Kevin Kreta (2 runs). GOLF TC West claims title at Brighton Invitational Traverse City West was led by medalists Natalie White and Jordan Newhouse as the Titans eked out a win in the Brighton Invitational. TC West's team score of 346 topped runner-up Dexter by a single stroke. White shot an 83 to place fourth out of the 18-team field, with Newhouse coming in at ninth with an 85. The other top Titans were Gabby Muller (87), Brooke Rodes (91) and Leighanna Whiting (100). GIRLS TRACK Horvath sparks Benzie to triangular victory Kelsey Horvath swept the hurdles as Benzie Central won a three-team girls track meet at Benzie. The Huskies finished with 93 points, Manton 41 and Suttons Bay 40. Horvath won the 100 hurdles in 16.25 and 300 hurdles in 50.98. BOYS TRACK Morris, Swinehart pace Manton to win Darren Morris and Justin Swinehart each won two events as Manton won a track triangular at Benzie Central. The Rangers finished with 75 points, Benzie 58 and Suttons Bay 42. Morris claimed the 110 high hurdles in 18:08 and the 300 low hurdles in 44.12. Swinehart captured the 100 in 11.76 and 200 in 24.28. Kalkaska wins five-team meet over LMC foes Mike Clegget, Paul Grieve and Ryan Leitow won two events each to lead Kalkaska to victory in a five-team meet consisting mostly of Lake Michigan Conference teams. Cleggett won the 110 and 300 hurdles in 16.6 and 41.7 seconds, while Leitow claimed the 100 (11.79) and 200 (23.07) and Grieve took home first in the 800 (2:05.9) and 1600 (4:34.1). The Blazers posted 119 team points, followed by Grayling (75), Traverse City St. Francis (71), East Jordan (44) and Ellsworth (39).
