Mancelona unbeaten in Ski Valley

FIFE LAKE — Mancelona improved its Ski Valley Conference baseball record to 5-0 with a 10-0, 6-1 baseball sweep of Forest Area.

Cody Sehl struck out seven while earning the shutout in the opener. Leading hitters for the Ironmen (7-1 overall) were Tom Pecar (2 hits, 2 RBIs) and Greg Blanco (4 stolen bases, RBI).

Zach Squires picked up with win in game two, with Blanco earning his third save. Kodi Balhorn went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and four stolen bases, while Zach Mussleman went 2-for-3 with two steals and an RBI.

Central Lake 5
Bellaire 3

Ryan Crawley struck out seven in pitching Central Lake to a 5-3 Ski Valley win over Bellaire.

Landon Waller and Brent Patton had two hits apiece for the Trojans. Waller scored twice.

The second game was tied at 7 in the seventh inning when it was called.

SOFTBALL

Bellaire 12 6
Central Lake 11 1

Kristine Vliet had six hits, two RBIs and two steals to key Bellaire's 12-11, 6-1 Ski Valley Conference softball sweep of Central Lake.

Mary Walsh had two hits each game, including a two-run double in the nightcap. She had three RBIs.

Logan Edgecomb was the winning pitcher in the first game, which lasted nine innings. Edgecomb struck out seven batters and also had an RBI double in the opener, along with a two-run double in the second game.

Montana Bartsch had a single, double and RBI in the opener. Shaunah Bryant added two hits and two RBIs and Aubrey Hocking contributed two hits and an RBI.

Amanda Shawl struck out five while earning the victory in the second game. She struck out five.

Mancelona 13 6
Forest Area 10 5

Brooke Orman picked up a pair of pitching victories, striking out eight as Mancelona swept Forest Area, 13-10 and 6-5.

Theresa Petersen had three hits and a RBI Sam Watkins a two-run double in the opener for Mancelona (5-3, 4-1 Ski Valley). Orman added two hits and a RBI and Maggie Shanahan two doubles and a RBI.

Orman had a two-run double and Bethanie Woods a triple and a RBI in the nightcap.

Vanderbilt 10
Mackinaw City 9

Vanderbilt scored four times in the fifth and final inning to edge Mackinaw City, 10-9.

Samantha Dudley had a solo home run and scored three times for Vanderbilt (1-2). Katie Hornshaw picked up her first win on the mound.

Pellston 13
Gaylord St. Mary 9

Kasi Fyke and Jill McNitt had three hits as Pellston edged Gaylord St. Mary, 13-9.

Fyke had two RBIs and two doubles and McNitt a triple for Pellston (7-0, 3-0 Ski Valley). Kelsey Kirsch (double, triple), Holly Burkhart and Dove Leiber.

Megan Bodzick was the winning pitcher with four shutout innings in relief.

SOCCER

TC Central 7
Alpena 0

Kari Buckel scored two goals and added an assist as Traverse City Central remained undefeated for the season with a 7-0 win over Alpena.

The Trojans (4-0-1, 3-1 Big North) also received a goal and an assist from Emma Budros.

Other Central goals came from Amanda Aldrich, Maggie Rogers, Katie Clayton and Anna Conard. Assists went to Abby Boursaw and Emily Carefoot.

Alyssa Budros and Jennifer Pierick split the shutout.

Elk Rapids 8
Grayling 0

Lexi Small had two goals and two assists as Elk Rapids blanked Grayling, 8-0.

Laura Bailey also scored twice and Kelsey Hawkins had two assists for the Elks (4-2, 1-2 Lake Michigan). Jessica Marks, Mary Toteff, Olivia Morrison and Hannah Parish had one goal to back goalie Franki Price.

Charlevoix 7
TC Liberty 2

Olivia Catt and Sara Wilkinson had two goals and Becca Madison a goal and two assists as Charlevoix topped the TC Liberty, 7-2.

Ariel Ramsey and Madison Way added goals and Tammy Potter made nine saves for Charelvoix (5-0).

Helene Dryden and Jamie Bott scored goals for the Liberty (2-2). Assists went to Kelly Ritsema and Olivia Pupel.

TC East frosh 6
TC Christian 2

The Traverse City East freshman team topped Traverse City Christian 6-2.

Winners for East included:

A.J. Moeh (No. 1 singles, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2), Chad McLintock (No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-4), John Newland (No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2), Matt Blanchard/Jordan deTar (No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-0), Frank Dituri/Joey Janik (No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4) and Thomas Earl/Michael Roskelly (No. 4 doubles, 6-2, 7-5).

TC Christian's winners were Hannah Lutheran at No. 4 singles (1-6, 6-4, 7-5) and Jacob Brand and Meghan Terpstra at No. 3 doubles (6-4, 6-3).
