The Rayders (6-4) scored 17 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to win 21-7 and finish off a sweep of Ellsworth. Ty Telgenhof was the winning pitcher in both games, going the distance in the 10-0 opener, striking out 7 and in 5 innings. He then went 1.1 innings in relief in the nightcap, fanning 3. All told, he didn't allow a single run. Michael Heckendorn had 5 hits, 4 runs and 4 RBIs at the plate, with Chris Waha (4 hits, 1 RBI), Zach Scharenbroch (4 hits, 4 RBI, 2 runs), Danny Waldron (3 hits, 4 runs), R.J. Moore (3 hits, 2 runs) and Telgenhof (3 hits, 2 runs, double) appearing regularly in the scorebook. MORE BASEBALL Frankfort 2, 7 Manistee 2, 5 Alex Stieve belted a solo home run to spark Frankfort to a come-from-behind 7-5 non-conference win over Manistee in the nightcap of a doubleheader. Manistee's first five hitters scored. The Panthers rallied, though, and Stieve's homer put Frankfort ahead for good. Stieve finished with three hits. Chris Tondu and Devin Gokey added a pair of hits for the Panthers (5-4-1). John Bower earned the win in relief. The two teams battled to a 2-2 tie in the opener. Max Banktson allowed just two hits in 5.2 innings of work. Gokey had an RBI double. TC East 2, 6 Ryan Trushke pitched TC East to a 6-1 win over the Glen Lake JV in the nightcap of a doubleheader. Alex Thomas had two hits for the Trojans (1-3). Trushke, Chris Rupp, Nolan Reamer and Jason McColl added solo hits. Glen Lake won the opener 12-2. Rupp collected two hits. SOFTBALL Frankfort 6, 7 Jenny Elliott and Noelle Fewins tossed two-hit shutouts as Frankfort swept Manistee 6-0 and 7-0 in a non-conference softball doubleheader. Elliott struck out 12 in the opener. Laney Eubank led the Frankfort offensive attack with two hits. Fewins struck out six in the nightcap. Elliott and Allison Webber pounded out two hits apiece for the Panthers (10-0). Frankfort plays in a tournament at Blissfield today. SOCCER Suttons Bay 2 Alyssa Korson scored two goals to propel Suttons Bay past Cheboygan 2-1. Korson tallied once in each half. Her first goal came on an assist from Erin Sneed; the second was unassisted. Kelsey Wick was the winning goalie and Fran Belanger was a defensive standout for the Norse (4-0-1), who host the Traverse City Liberty today. Charlevoix 8 Meridith Rich scored two goals and six of her teammates added one each to lead Charlevoix past East Jordan 8-0 in Lake Michigan Conference soccer. TRACK TC West places third in co-ed meet at Midland The Traverse City West girls won two events and finished second behind host Midland 100-66 in Friday's Graves Swayze Relays. Combined with the West boys' fifth-place point total of 42 points, the Titans finished third overall in the co-ed meet. Midland won with 183, followed by Midland Dow with 112 and West with 108. The Titans trio of Ashley Leitner, Sarah VanCoonis and Ruth Hines won the pole vault with a combined 22 feet, and the foursome of Sierra Breithaupt, Leitner, Sarah Roper and Jamie Schaub claimed first place in the shot put (400-meter) relay in 57.4 seconds. Seconds went to: Brittany Klug, Kara Pohlman, Hines and Kate Sumner in the 100 hurdles (1:12.7); Elise Carolan, Erin Holstad, Emmy Carter and Jennifer Bragiel in the 6400 relay (29 points using cross country scoring); Hines, Anne Prisk, Veronica Asch and Lilia Favela in the 3200 relay (8:34); Prisk, Mandy Scott, Leitner and Christine Olson in the sprint medley (2:00.9 200/100/100/200); Prisk, Asch, Bragiel and Margeaux Raymond in the middle distance medley (7:37.2 800/400/400/800); and Asch, Favela, Raymond and Bragiel in the 1600 relay (4:30.2). West posted three third-place finishes: Breightaupt, Leitner, Roper and Schaub in the shot put (99'1 1/2); Klug, Pohlman and Alex Commins in the 300 hurdles (2:47); and Nick Geering, Carolan, Prisk and Peter Martin the co-ed relay (15:34, 1600/1600/800/800). Knoblock, Glick spark Trojans at invitational Blake Knoblock won the shot put (44'6.5) and took fourth in the discus (117'9) as Traverse City Central finished third in the 14-team Optimist Invitational at Mason County Central. Grant won the invitational with 101 points. Ludington was second (80.5) and Central third (73). Trevor Glick was second in the long jump (19'2) and third in the 110 high hurdles (15.7) and 300 low hurdles (44.3) for the Trojans. Evan Dancer placed second in the 3200 (10:02.3). Central was third in the 3200 relay (8:38). Trojans victorious at Optimist Invitational The Traverse City Central girls won four events en route to capturing the Optimist Invitational. The Trojans finished with 96 points. Runner-up Ludington had 83. Taylor Mattarella won the 1600 (5:28) and 3200 (12:07) for the Trojans while Emily Westerman claimed the 800 (2:32.6). Charnele Lyons, Katie Perkins, Julia Otwell and Westerman teamed to win the 3200 relay (10:13). Otwell was second in the 400 (1:03.59) and 1600 (5:31). She was also on the 1600 relay with Maren Bahra, Shelbie Buchanan and Lyons. They placed second in 4:24.7. Bahra added a third in the long jump (15'1). Kortney Bower placed third in the shot put (35'11).
