Treece sets 3 records in Mesick Invitational; Harbor nets Boyne title

MESICK — Marissa Treece just keeps on setting records.

The Glen Lake senior won four events — shattering three meet marks in the process — at Saturday's Mesick Invitational track meet.

The Traverse City St. Francis girls edged Frankfort 103-97 for the team title. Marion was third (68), followed by Onekama (60), Glen Lake (43), McBain Northern Michigan Christian (32), Manton (21) and TC Christian (20).

Treece stole the show with record-setting victories in the 1600 (4:56.84), 800 (2:23.84) and 3200 (11:03.68). She broke her own marks in the 1600 and 800, and beat the record of former Lakers standout Cassidy Edwards in the 3200.

Treece capped an impressive day by anchoring Glen Lake's first-place 1600 relay (4:25.96), just moments after she competed in the 3200. The Lakers were in fourth place when Treece took the baton, but she ran a 59.6-second 400 to erase the gap.

Hannah Meachum won two events to pace team champion St. Francis. Meachum captured the 100 hurdles (16.98) and 300 hurdles (52.93).

Katie Olsen, Morgan McCardel, Liz Edington and Colleen Perria added a win in the 3200 relay (10:31.59).

Other area winners were:

HIGH JUMP — Rozeveld (McBain NMC) 4'10”; 100 — Frantz (F) 12.96; 800 RELAY — Frankfort 1:53.52; 400 RELAY — Frankfort 53.99; 400 — Kelly Tousley (F) 1:03.74; 200 — Frantz (F) 2:26.96.

BOYS TRACK

Manton edges TCSF for Mesick Invite crown

Manton won four events en route to the boys title in the Mesick Invitational.

The Rangers finished with 122 points, followed by TC St. Francis (109), Onekama (82 1/2), Marion (48), Brethren (30 1/2), Frankfort (29), Baldwin (26), Mesick (22), Glen Lake (10) and McBain NMC (4).

St. Francis' Dan Maxbauer was the top individual performer with four victories. He won the 110 hurdles (15.37), 300 hurdles (43.22) and high jump (5'9”) and joined Taylor Hennrick, Brady Mikula and Chris Dendrinos on the winning 1600 relay (3:40.28).

Other area winners were:

DISCUS — Stratton (Br) 130'4”; 3200 RELAY — Manton (9:02.44);100 — Swinehart (Man) 11.4; 1600 — Swisher (O) 4:44.87; 400 — Chris Dendrinos (TCSF) 52.5; 800 — Portman (Man) 2:08.15; 3200 — Brett Schrieder (Man) 10:48.16.

GOLF

Rochester Hills claims TC Central/Lober Classic

Amy Meier followed Friday's 74 with a 76 on Saturday to win medalist honors and lead Rochester Hills to victory in the two-round Traverse City Central/Bob Lober Classic golf tournament at Grand Traverse Resort.

The Falcons finished with 718. TC West was fifth (735) and TC Central tied for 20th (802) in the 37-team field.

The Titans fired a 379 on Saturday. Leading the way were Jordan Newhouse (90), Brooke Rodes 994), Natalie White (94) and Gaby Muller (101).

Pacing the Trojans were Natalie Matuszak (86), Kari Tomaski (88), Carrie Thilion (105) and Melody VanDusan (119).

TENNIS

Harbor first, Elk Rapids second in Boyne Invite

Harbor Springs won five flights to claim team honors in the Boyne Invitational tennis tournament.

The Rams finished with 22 points, followed by Elk Rapids with 15, Glen Lake with eight and Boyne City with three.

The Elks won two flights 3-0 records and placed second in three others at 2-1.

First-place finishers for Elk Rapids were Aaron Mayes at No. 1 singles and Andy Paulosky and Garrett Peters at No. 3 doubles.

TC West wins GT Bay Junior Varsity Invitational

The Traverse City West junior varsity won four flights and edged second-place TC Central 18-17 in the Grand Traverse Bay JV Invitational.

Petoskey was third and Big Rapids fourth.

The Titans won three of four singles flights. Going 3-0 were Zach Hughey at No. 1, Andy Bezotte at No. 3 and Jorgan Treppe at No. 4.

Andrew Farron and Dane Deemer also went 3-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Central champs included Zak Miller at No. 2 singles, Dan Spencer and Jake Overholt at No. 1 doubles, Jack Raymond and Duncan Cooperat No. 3 doubles and Matt Jackson and Preston Sanford at No. 4 doubles.
