Trojans win Spring Cup tournament

TRAVERSE CITY — It hasn't been too spring-like yet this season, but the Spring Cup is in the hands of Traverse City Central.

The Trojans won their own tourney, outscoring the opposition by a combined 16-0 is the process.

Central opened up with an 8-0 mercy win over Bad Axe, with Kari Buckel, April Nabel and Amanda Aldrich scoring 2 goals apiece. Jennifer Pierick and Emma Berger also added goals, with assists going to Abby Boursaw (2), Emily Carefoot, Aldrich and Emma Budros.

Alyssa Mudros made 1 save in goal. Bad Axe came into the game with just 1 loss, but saw the game called with 13:28 left.

In the final, Boursaw scored a hat trick in an 8-0 win over Mount Pleasant, Brittany O'Brien and Buckel had 2 goals each and Berger scored a goal. Assists went to Maggie Rogers, Katie Clayton, Berger, O'Brien, Buckel and Boursaw (2).

Alyssa Budros again only had to make 1 save in net.

Bourdaw's first goal came 22 seconds into the game, setting a record for fastest goal in school history.

For the tournament, the Trojans (5-0-1) outshot their foes 46-2. Buckel, Carefoot, Boursaw, Rogers and Berger were named to the all-tournament team.

Midland won the JV portion of the tourney with a 2-0 title game win over TC Central JV Black. Central (3-3) topped Marquette in the opener 1-0 on a goal by Miki Smith.

Titans go 1-1 in Midland Dow Invite

Erica Olson and Becca Sage scored goals and Emily Entz was the winning goalie as Traverse City West edged East Lansing 2-1 in the first game of the Midland Dow Invitational.

Marissa Wood-Sternburgh and Katherine Ward earned assists.

Dow defeated the Titans 1-0 in the second game.

The host Chargers lost 1-0 to East Lansing to leave all three teams 1-1 on the day.

Suttons Bay 4
TC Liberty 0

Erin Sneed scored three goals, including one on a header, to lead Suttons Bay (5-0-1) to a 4-0 victory over the Traverse City Liberty.

Sneed also assisted on a goal by Suzanne Duperon. Netminder Kara Bunbury earned the shutout.

TC West JV Green splits pair at Dow

Outside defender Lorin Zelinski scored on a long kick for the only goal of the game as the Traverse City West junior varsity Green squad defeated the East Lansing junior varsity 1-0 in the first of two games at Midland Dow.

Megann Karch assisted on the goal. Alyse Tucker was in net for the Titans (5-2).

West lost 2-0 to Dow.
