08/03/2007MemorandaEvents Northwest Michigan Human Services Agency will host a number of public workshops in August dealing with home improvements, personal finance and buying a home. The series will include a pre-purchase home-buying class Aug. 7-8 from 6 to 9 p.m. to discuss the basics of home buying, including information for low-income families. A course on taxes and insurance will be held Aug. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m., followed by a "Walls and Windows workshop on home maintenance and repairs on Aug. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. The workshops are held at the agency's office at 3963 Three Mile Road in Traverse City, and sign-up information is available at 1-800-632-7334. Seminar SCORE, counselors to America's small business and National City Bank will sponsor the seminar, "How To Market Your Business led by Juliette Schultz and Roger Ehle. The workshop will take place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce offices, 202 East Grandview Parkway. Cost is $25 per person or $40 for two. In this position, she supports divisional sales efforts and assists with the creation of promotional materials and community advertising. She also works on special events and coordinates local initiatives. Elhart brings six years experience with a local law office to her new position. Sean Tobin has joined the Traverse City wayfinding firm, Corbin Design, as a new designer. Tobin currently is working on projects for clients including Scripps Health in San Diego, the University of Virginia Health System and Pennsylvania's Harrisburg Area Community College. He worked as a freelance designer before joining Corbin. New business Dean and Tricia Adams, both natives of northern Michigan, have opened their business, Bay Area Contracting, in Traverse City. The company offers general contracting services for both commercial and residential structures. Recognition Melissa Ewing, co-founder of the Undercover Vegetable Company in Leelanau County and makers of Yotta bars, appeared on the QVC home shopping channel selling the Yotta bars recently. Gillison's Variety Fabrication, Inc., of Benzonia, recently was recognized by AGCO Corporation, a worldwide manufacturer and distributor of agricultural equipment, for superior achievement upon completion of their Continuous Improvement Program, AGCO's annual dealer evaluation review. Carol and Jim Preuett, independent associates of Pre-Paid Legal Services Inc., in Traverse City, qualified for an incentive trip to California for achieving exceptional levels of sales success. Associations Marcia Barrette-Rushton has been elected President of the Northern Michigan Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals for the 2007-2008 service year. Barrette-Rushton works for Munson Medical Center and has been a member of the chapter since its inception in 1998.
