Awards

• Local broadcaster Ross Biederman received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters at the organization's annual meeting in July in Grand Rapids. Biederman is president and general manager of Midwestern Broadcasting Co. in Traverse City, which includes nine area radio stations.

• Thom Paulson, general manager of Interlochen Public Radio, received a 2007 Professional Pioneer Award from the Michigan Association of Public Broadcasters during the MAB annual meeting last month. Paulson is also vice president for media at Interlochen Center for the Arts.

• Several area construction companies were honored at the 2007 Parade of Homes award ceremony held in July by the Home Builders Association of Grand Traverse Area Inc.

MAC Custom Homes won the People's Choice Award in the large and small home categories, while Brian Mohr's Chestnut Court property was the multi-family residence winner. Stone Ridge Development won for outstanding new development.

First-place awards in the Master Suite category went to DesignCraft Homes by Duensing Construction, Bradley Wheeler Architecture & Construction Inc. and B. Mohr Contracting LLC. Interior design honors went to DesignCraft Homes by Duensing, Northland Contractors LLC and Silverwood Enterprises Ltd.

Top kitchen awards went to MAC Custom Homes, Northland Contractors and B. Mohr Contracting. Top honors for exterior design went to MAC Custom Homes, Bradley Wheeler Architecture & Construction and Crain Hill LLC, which also won first-place awards for craftmanship.

Baldwin Homes Inc. won top honors for first-year participants and Machin Contracting LLC received the Most Innovative Home Design award.

Personnel

• Attorney Louis A. Smith of Smith & Johnson Attorneys P.C. of Traverse City was re-appointed to a five-year term on the State Board of Law Examiners, which oversees the testing process and passes on the character and fitness for applicants to the State Bar of Michigan. Board members are nominated by the Michigan Supreme Court and appointments are approved by the governor's office.

• Chase bank promoted commercial banker Evan Lintvedt to manage its Business Banking group in Traverse City. He will direct a team of managers and customer service employees serving businesses with annual sales of $1 million to $50 million. Lintvedt has 18 years of experience with Chase and its predecessors.

• Katherine Marciniak-DeGood joined the Falconer Group in Traverse City as a philanthropic associate. She's worked for eight years in nonprofit fundraising, including work for the Women's Resource Center and the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation.

• Attorney Daniel O'Neil, of Traverse City, was named a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum for attorneys who've won million and multi-million verdicts, awards and settlements for their clients. There are approximately 3,000 lawyers in the country who are members. He is a partner in the law firm of Thompson, O'Neil and Vanderveen.

• Erickson Braund has joined the Traverse City office of Rehmann Financial as a financial advisor.

New location

• The Drop Spot of Traverse City, an eBay resale store, moved into the former Blue Photo building at 1021 E. Eighth St. The store is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 11a.m. to 4 p.m.

• The Rehmann Group moved into a new office at 107 S. Cass St. in Traverse City from its former location on East Front Street. The firm maintained two local offices following its merger with Weber, Curtin & Pahssen as of Jan. 1. The new office houses more than 50 employees.
