Personnel file

• Susan Vigland has been hired as manager of training and development at Hagerty Insurance in Traverse City. She will oversee all training programs, including new employee training and further development of existing staff members. Vigland previously worked as the snow sports and recreation director at Crystal Mountain.

Mark VanDam has joined Hagerty as vice president of insurance services and chief underwriting officer, where he will lead the creation and management of underwriting policy and process. Mark has 27 years of insurance experience, most recently working as regional vice president for American International Group's Personal Lines division.

Linda Austin has been promoted to vice president of auto sales and service at Hagerty. In her new role, Austin will direct the client service and production teams, including client service, sales and risk assessment agents. Austin has 16 years of experience in the insurance industry, and has been with Hagerty for 10 years.

Paul Wonacott was hired as human resources manager at Hagerty. Wonacott will manage the implementation of a new payroll system as well as compensation planning, competency model development and employee communications. Prior to working at Hagerty, he spent 12 years as consultant with Accenture and Arthur Andersen.

• Jill Steckley has joined The Bank of Northern Michigan's Traverse City office as a senior loan officer.

• Mark Fiegel has joined Northern Contract Interiors in Traverse City as the company's vice president of sales.

Fiegel brings more than 15 years of sales and business development to his new position. His most recent post was with Bayer/Schering-Plough Pharmaceuticals where he was named 2003 Rookie of the Year for the company's Grand Rapids division. He also served as director of strategic alliances for Hagerty Classic Insurance. He is a 1984 graduate of Traverse City Central High School.

Northern Contract Interiors also added two new sales and design professions to its hospitality division.

Jennifer Peck joins NCI from Details Cabin & Cottage, where she acted as buyer and regional manager. Denise Braun brings a 25-year career of sales and design experience to NCI's hospitality team that began at Stewart-Zack's in Traverse City.

New business

• Krista Kostansek recently opened Bugs & Butterflys, a new children's boutique, at 130 E. Front St., in Traverse City.

The location, formerly occupied by Dandelion, has been redecorated and features clothing, shoes, accessories, toys and gifts, including vintage-style items.

Summer hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Online shopping is available at www.bugsandbutterflys.com. Kostansek can be reached at 933-4340.

Website update

• Venture Properties Inc., a northern Michigan real estate firm specializing in homes and land in Leelanau and Grand Traverse counties, has relaunched the company's Web site. The new domain is www.ventureproperties.net.
