08/31/2007Windy City cools off BumsTRAVERSE CITY The red-hot Traverse City Beach Bums were cooled off by the winningest team in Frontier League history on Thursday night. Gilberto Mejia's two-run double keyed a five-run eighth inning and led the Windy City Thunderbolts to a 7-2 victory over the Bums at Wuerfel Park. The victory improved Windy City's record to 66-27. The Thunderbolts broke the single-season record for wins last weekend. Traverse City, which had won six consecutive home games, fell to 45-48. The Bums must win their final three games to reach the .500 mark. Curtis Ledbetter went 2-for-3 for Traverse City to extend his hitting streak to 25 games, tied for best in the league this season. Brad Vericker also continued his hot hitting by slugging his second homer in as many nights, a two-run shot in the third. David Nathanson hurled 6.2 innings for the Bums and left the game with a 2-1 lead, but the bullpen couldn't hold it.
