08/31/2007Suttons Bay runs up 500 yardsCentral Lake, Frankfort also post shutout winsSuttons Bay rushed for 502 yards in rolling to a 48-0 win at Harbor Springs. The Norsemen (2-0) had three backs with at least 130 yards. Anthony Stewart led the attack with 172 yards in five carries. Ryan Konieczka added 140 on five attempts and Nick Porritt 130 on six carries. Stewart scored on runs of 31, 64 and 19 yards in the first half. Porritt had a 77-yard TD dash in the fourth quarter. Eric Hernandez, Andrew Bumgardner and Dylan McCall also scored on runs for the Norsemen. Jeff Lott kicked six extra points. Nalen Brockman had two interceptions on defense. Suttons Bay hosts Glen Lake next Friday. Coloma 35 Coloma beat Glen Lake 35-7 its second win over the Lakers in as many years. Down 35-0 in the fourth quarter, Glen Lake got on the board when Ryan Dyksterhouse hauled in a 24-yard scoring pass from Nate Sneed. Sneed led the Lakers with 71 yards rushing in 14 attempts. Dyksterhouse averaged 51.2 yards on four punts. Pat Deering led the defense with 17 tackles. Aaron Nemeskal was in on 13 stops. Glen Lake visits Suttons Bay next Friday. Lake City 21 Lake City built a 21-0 lead, then held off Mesick for a 21-13 win. The Bulldogs (1-1) made it interesting on touchdown runs by Jeff Harnish (26 yards) and Ben Peltier (six yards) in the second half. Peltier finished with 117 yards in 15 carries. He also led the defense with 11 tackles and one interception. Jon Flintoff added 10 tackles. Lake City hosts McBain next Friday. Reed City 54 Reed City, coming off a 35-0 win over Kingsley, handed McBain a 54-15 setback. Quarterback Ethan Sikkema led the Ramblers, rushing for about 50 yards and throwing for another 50. He connected with Jon Ouwinga on a scoring pass. McBain travels to Lake City next Friday. Kingsley 30 Kingsley bounced back from a season-opening loss to Reed City with a romp of its own, 30-6 over Harrison. Jeff Jamieson scored three touchdowns for the Stags on runs of 20, 6 and 3 yards. Josh Wiggins added a 21-yard TD pass to Jordan Prahl and a two-point conversion pass to Maurice Sims. Cody Mutter also ran for two conversions. Sims rushed for 108 yards on seven carries as the Stags gained 302 on the ground. Justin Mueller led the defense with 13 tackles. Kingsley travels to Mesick next Friday for a 7 p.m. tilt. Grayling 31 Down 11-8 at half, Grayling recovered for a 31-17 win over Houghton Lake. Isaac VanNuck led the Vikings, catching four passes for 40 yards and one score and returning an interception 60 yards for another TD. Ryan Cooper rushed for 102 yards and Tim VanNuck 55. Cooper had a TD run of 25 yards, VanNuck five yards. Jimmy Osga completed 10 of 18 passes for 101 yards. Jason Drudge kicked a 27-yard field goal and two extra points. Tim VanNuck had 13 tackles and two sacks. The Vikings travel to East Jordan next Friday for a 7 p.m. matchup. Mancelona 18 Adam Duerksen rushed for 186 yards and three touchdowns as Mancelona beat Onaway 18-6 in a Ski Valley battle. Duerksen scored on runs of 61, 2 and 62 yards. His 62-yard burst midway through the fourth quarter gave the Ironmen (1-1) some breathing room. James McDowell scored on an 11-yard run for Onaway. Cody Sehl had eight tackles for Mancelona. Mike Herczak added seven. The Ironmen travel to Gaylord St. Mary next Friday. Elk Rapids 46 Six different players scored touchdowns as Elk Rapids romped past Oscoda 46-18. Jimmy Anderson scored the game's first two TDs, pitting paydirt from 4 and 2 yards out, to give the Elks a 13-0 lead after the first quarter. Brandon Gualtiere hit Carl Steuer on a 31-yard strike and Zac Dreffs for a 69-yard TD to lead 27-0 at halftime. Tyler Smith added a 41-0yard TD run and Andy Kamp a 42-yard interception return in the third quarter and Dreffs' 43-yard TD run in the fourth finished off the scoring. Peter Shugart converted on four extra points. Steuer led the Elks (2-0) with 11 tackles and Smith added 10. Central Lake 47 Central Lake had four players with 60 or more yards rushing as the Trojans routed Atlanta 47-0. Landon Walker gained 97 yards and scored two TDs, adding 25 receiving yards, and Nolan Howes added 72 rush yards and a pair of scores. Travis Rogers ran for 67 yards and Jarod Danbert contributed 60 rushing and 35 receiving. Zach Light paced the Central Lake defense with 8 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Howes added two sackes, Waller had 6 tackles and a sack and Jason Barnett picked off a pass. Central Lake (2-0) led 20-0 at halftime. Frankfort 40 Wade Luxford ran for one touchdown and threw for two more as Frankfort rang up a 40-0 road win over Manton. Luxford ran one in from 5 yards out and had TD passes to Alex Stieve (17 yards) and Kam Hollenbeck (12 yards). Luxford was 3-for-4 passing for 44 yards and led the team with 73 rushing yards. Scott Demerly scored from 5 and 6 yards out and Van Amond added a 12-yard touchdown scamper. Eric Pettit led the Panthers (2-0) with 8 tackles and Luxford and Brandon Garber each had interceptions. Kyle Schwab led the Rangers (0-2) with 12 tackles, and Casper Woodcock and Darren Morris each had 8. JUNIOR VARSITY Saginaw Nouvel JV 32 Ryan Miller scored four touchdowns, including the game-winner with 1:01 left, to give Saginaw Nouvel a 32-26 win over Traverse City St. Francis in a JV tilt. The Gladiators got off to a good start, as Ben Swann took the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown and a 6-0 lead, but the Panthers took an 18-6 lead into halftime. The Glads cut the deficit to 18-13 on a 51-yard TD pass from Dylan Seybert to John Zakrzewski, with Joey Kerridge adding the extra point. Seybert tossed his second TD pass of the game to Justin Olm, a 12-yarder that made it 19-24 and Swann's 43-yard scoring run put St. Francis up 26-24 in the fourth quarter. Luke Popp, Zakrzewski, Zach Tenbush and Paul Britten were defensive standouts for the Glads.
