Recipe of the Week

Cherry Dump Cake

Lucille Russell of Traverse City sent in today's recipe for Cherry Dump Cake.

"My family loves it,” she writes. "And cleanup is a snap.”

Lucille acquired the recipe from one of her co-workers at Howmet in Whitehall, where she said they frequently had potluck meals.

Cherry Dump Cake

  • 1 can (1 lb. 6 oz.) cherry pie filling
  • 1 can (1 lb. 4 oz.) pineapple chunks, drained
  • 1 package yellow cake mix (dry)
  • 1 c. melted butter
  • 1 c. flaked coconut
  • 1 c. chopped English walnuts

Spread pie filling on bottom of 13-by-9-inch cake pan. Arrange pineapple chunks as next layer. Sprinkle with dry cake mix. Pat down and pour melted butter over it all, then spread coconut and walnuts over the top. Bake at 350 for one hour. Serve with ice cream.
