Education Newsmakers

• Ryan Mark Damerow, 23, a graduate of TC West, has been accepted into the Peace Corps. He departed for China on June 28 and will focus on teaching English to students who are in training to become primary and middle school English teachers in rural areas. He will also be training English instructors at the university level. He attended Michigan State University and graduated in 2005 with a bachelor of arts degree in political science, public administration and public policy.

• The Glen Lake Women's Club has awarded scholarships to Glen Lake High School students attending Northwestern Michigan College or the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. This year's recipients include: Erika Easter, who received the $2,000 Jeanine Wessinger Dean Scholarship to NMC; Amber Ingersoll and Kati Jackson, who each received $1,500 scholarships to NMC; Kylene Caswell, Ted Butrick, Shannon Galla, Katie Milliron and Kaleigh Blackburn, who each received a $1,000 scholarship to NMC; Jake Dolan received $450, Stephanie Love, $430 and Charlie Thatch, $445 to attend the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.
