Artist's paintings will be at state show

CEDAR — Artwork by Cedar resident Brent Pennell has been selected for inclusion in the statewide Creative Minds Changing Minds traveling art show. Pennell's painting of a snowy owl will be one of 35 pieces in the show sponsored by the Michigan Association of Community Mental Health Boards He will receive a $100 prize in addition to the honor of being selected.

According to MACMHB Executive Director Dave LaLumia, the goals of the show are to help destigmatize mental illness, developmental disabilities and substance use issues by showcasing the multi-dimensionality of people who use community mental health services and to highlight the recovery potential of the arts.

The traveling art show will begin its two-year schedule in Traverse City Oct. 21-23 at the MACMHB fall conference at the Grand Traverse Resort.

It will then be publicly presented at various venues in the six counties served by Northern Lakes Community Mental Health before traveling around the rest of the state.
