Film explores the history of the Benzie region

BENZONIA — Due to popular demand, there will be an encore showing Thursday of "Benzie History on Film.”

The collection of home movies and some professional film was shot in the 1930s through 1950s and stars the faces and places of Benzie County from that era. There is footage of downtown Frankfort and Elberta, people, cars and businesses, ski jumping, winter ice carnivals, "Benzie Jumper” sleds, the car ferries and footage of recreation from the area.

Material was collected by Benzie Area Historical Society Board members Jerry Heiman and Jeanne Edwards and some of the film has been restored and digitized with the help of the Frankfort Rotary Club.

"Benzie History on Film” will be shown from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Mills Community House, 891 U.S. 31.

Both admission and popcorn are free and beverages will be available to purchase. Donations to continue the work of the museum and its film collection will be accepted.
