Recognition

• Brian Mastenbrook, a 16-year employee with the Department of Natural Resources, has been named the 2007 Michigan Wildlife Biologist of the Year by Safari Club International-Michigan Involvement Committee.

Mastenbrook is a senior wildlife habitat biologist in Gaylord. He is responsible for the co-management of the Pigeon River and Gaylord Forest Management Units.

Events

• The Downtown Traverse City Association will sponsor its annual dinner at 6:30 p.m. June 14 at the Park Place Hotel. The event will feature the presentation of the Lyle DeYoung Award and a Downtown Traverse City update by DDA Executive Director Bryan Crough. Cost is $30 per person. Space is limited. Call 922-2050.

• The area chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals will meet June 21 at 6 p.m. at Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville. The speaker is consumer education specialist Karl Schoen. Registration information is available from Wendy Gauthier at 946-1722.

Expansion

• Owners Darla and Scott Stites will open the newest location of their clothing stores, What To Wear, at 141 River St. in Elk Rapids. The Stiteses also have a women's boutique in Traverse City. The stores specialize in women's clothing, shoes, and jewelry as well as home accessories.

• Northwestern Bank recently opened its new Traverse City West Bay office in the West Bay Shopping Center next to Tom's Food Market. The bank has selected Kent Nordin as the manager of the new location and Tori Jelinek as personal banker.
