06/16/2007Old Trillium is now the new 'Aerie'
The sun sets over East Bay through windows of the Aerie Restaurant on the 16th floor of the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa tower. ACME Aerie is the name of the newly renovated and now open restaurant on top of the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa tower. More than 3,000 entries were submitted in a statewide contest by the resort to select a name for the former Trillium restaurant on the 16th floor. The restaurant was reconfigured and remodeled as part of a larger $14 million renovation at the 900-acre resort. The design by Chicago-based Simeone Deary Design Group capitalizes on the restaurant's expansive views of the water and countryside. In addition to tables with seating for 216 that line the wall-to-ceiling windows, the new design includes a small private dining room that seats 12 and a 32-seat lounge. Aerie has also rolled out a new menu from Executive Chef Ted Cizma. Focusing on regional American selections, the menu highlights local produce, wine, bread and cheese. Appetizers start at $6, with salads from $5 to $7 and entrees in the $19 to $30 range. Becky Kalajian of Traverse City won the contest for her suggestion of "aerie, defined as "the nest of a bird, such as an eagle, built on a cliff or other high place by the American Heritage Dictionary. Billed as offering "premium casual dining and with no dress code, the restaurant and lounge are open seven evenings a week, the bar from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. with dinner from 6 to 10 p.m.
