'Survivors' showcase ice soccer

TRAVERSE CITY — Ice soccer will be showcased on June 9 by 20 former participants from the CBS-TV reality show "Survivor.”

Traverse City Castaways, the local community service organization that is sponsoring the benefit and partnering with former "Survivor'' participants, selected ice soccer as the centerpiece sport for its fifth annual "Survivors” charity event, "Ice for Ice.”

This year's "Castaways” include: Survivor Panama Exile Island — Aras Baskauskas (winner), Cirie Fields, Misty Giles, Ruth Marie Millman and Bruce Kanegai; Survivor Fiji — Rita Verreos and Edgardo Rivera; Survivor Guatemala — Rafe Judkins and Brooke Strck; Survivor Cook Island — Cristina Coria and Billy Garcia; Survivor Palau — Coby Archa, Katie Gallagher, Jennifer Lyon and James Miller; Survivor Thailand — Jake Billingsley and Jed Hildebrand; and Survivor Vanuatu — John Palyok and Lisa Keiffer.

The game will begin at 1 p.m. at Centre Ice Arena, followed by an autograph-signing with the "Survivors.” Funds raised will help the House of Hope and the Grand Traverse County Meals on Wheels program. Tickets are $15 per person and advance purchase is recommended.
