Gary Beckwith on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at 12:25pm, Traverse City, Michigan: I am trying to get in touch with Connie Lou Beckwith(Strait). She and I were married for a brief time in 1981-82. I was a terrible husband to her and treated her without love or concern. I made her do things that I had no right to. I failed her in every way possible. Connie, I am so sorry for the things I have done. Please forgive me. I can never undo the harm. If anyone has any information about Connie, please contact me. worldofpandar@hotmail.com

My folks are still there and we go up every chance we can. My daughters, now 11 and 12 spend summers up there every year! Wanted to say hi to my best buddies Moira Hall and Judy Schoperay. Keep the sunshine going - we're coming up on the 13th of July!! If anyone wants to email me, please do: shellyy63@hotmail.com

"What If's" on Friday, June 8, 2007 at 7:12pm, Warren, MI: TC is a beautiful city. I envy all who live there. I lived there for a very short time some years ago. I moved there to be with my first love. I still to this day can not explain why I left. Home sick and a little scared I guess, so I went home. I never told my first love how I felt before I left. But I have always wondered what if? I tried to move on with my life and I have many things that have brought me joy. Children, family and friends that love me and that I love. But the what if's still remain. Some believe that there are many chapters (or stories) in our lives some chapters end and others continue. In my heart I believe that chapter never ended, for the what if's and the feelings are still here. Maybe the feelings will always be here and that I can live with for I believe we have room in our hearts to love many people in many ways. Our family our children our friends there is always room for love. I still believe that someday I will see my first love again and we will talk about our lives and be happy for each other. Who knows what the future may bring for that is another chapter yet to begin. Keep those you love close to you and let them know that you love them, for the what if's are heavy on your heart.

Stephanie Fineout (O'Neal) on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at 5:59am, Kirkuk, Iraq: Well, I'm currently deployed to Iraq while in the U.S. Army. Nothing like missing home like being in a place like this. I enlisted in the end of 2005 and have not really been back to TC since but for a couple weeks. I was stationed in HI, and don't get me wrong, Hawaii is a very beautiful place, but I miss TC so very much, plus all of my family. I'm hoping that when I get done with the Army thing I can move back to TC. I miss the Cherry Festival even though when I was there it seemed so old. If you care to contact me my e-mail is Tickles975@aol.com. You are all so lucky.......

We were transferred to Kodiak Alaska because of the Coast Guard. There are several fellow co workers here that were also in Traverse City. We all really miss Traverse City and hope to come back some day. Summers in Traverse City are so beautiful and we really miss the heat! If you ever come to Kodiak, look us up!

Dave DeMaw on Friday, August 11, 2006 at 12:20a.m., Tolland, CT: Traverse City is so different from the years I lived there - 1962 to 1965. But I have great memories of a smaller town in simpler times. I lived on Peninsula drive with a view of Ford Island. It just didn't get any better than that.

dutyon on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at 4:52am, Traverse City, MI: We seldom contemplate the fact of our living in T.C. As we read through the various entries, we realize that there are many other people who love, miss, or can not wait to return to Traverse City. We appreciate how very fortunate we are to be able to spend every day here!

wayne fleming on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 5:59pm, mishawaka, indiana: As a member of the USAF in the early '60s I then considered the area as my home. How lucky can a GI be? Thinking when assigned there, bad luck, No. Michigan. Little did I know I was going to what many of us considered the garden spot of the U.S.! The summers, what can I say. The winters arguably better. I was treated as if I were at home, natives couldn't have been friendlier. Summer softball games at a city park, Cherry Festival, no money but had the best time in my life! Met so many great friends, military and civilian likewise. Lost a great friend I still mourn, made the worst romantic mistake in my life ever, think of her still almost everyday, I consider it Gods curse on me. Barbra if you happen to read this, I'd like to explain what happened with that horrible decision I made. Any way I've lived in Cities from Mishawaka,In., Louisville,Ky., St. Louis,Mo. to NYC and back to my childhood home of Mishawaka. Visited many more, Loved them all, but none were like Traverse City! Travel there at least twice yearly, you bring back so many great memories, the best of what I consider a great and complete life, began at Traverse City, Mi. Thank you T.C. If any of my AF friends are lucky enough to still be there, drop me a line. I'd love to hear from you. Mostly you Barb if your not still mad at me. Can be reached at wlf-2183@sbcglobal.net.

I have been traveling the great lakes golf trail for several months and have to state that Traverse City is my favorite stop so far. Great people, golf, food, breweries and wineries.

Suzanne (Sanday) Camarillo on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 1:49pm, LaCoste, TX: I didn't know the Zoo was going away. I too will miss it. I remember when they had elk and moose in the zoo and i went back there 5 years ago inquiring where they were only to hear there never was. I just laughed because in the 60's they were there. Infact you could get in line for years to get a set of horns. I was from Empire, and now am coming back to the area soon.

Mark Cameron on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at 11:17am, Worthington, Ohio: I am going to miss the Clinch Park Zoo. I have spent many years visiting the zoo and even remember the miniature town back in the 60s and 70s. I only visit Traverse City once a year now and with four generations of family visiting the zoo we are surely going to miss the downtown attraction. It was a great part of growing up while living in the area in the summers past. My kids will also miss it. Currently living in a city housing the Columbus Zoo I understand it is best for the animals with all the activity focusing on the area, and I was concerned in the past about the noise levels from the jet aircraft performing during the Cherry Festival. I am glad that the animals will be relocated to more quiet environments. I am hoping the location could become a type of attraction such as small restaurants, expansion of the museum, perhaps some sort of maritime museum, film festival museum, or some type of public spot where families can come and take a shopping break by stopping there. It is a great spot and one can only hope that families will be able to continue to enjoy it in the years to come.

Tyler M. James on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at 9:15pm, Wilson, NC: Tyler lives and breathes though suffering a warmer clime, he trudges on. All hail the most wonderful place a child could have ever grown up in.

Kim on Sunday, February 26, 2006 at 10:56pm, Cedar, MI: I love Traverse City, I have lived here for almost 14 years, but, yes there is a but, I have a small problem with Traverse City. I feel as though this once small and special town has grown to fast and has developed some groups and ideas, that shall remain nameless, that I am ashamed to have located here. People who have relocated here have brought with them their big city ideas and have virtually ruined a once wonderful town. Should you move here, remember that people once used to wave to passerbys, and they helped each other out, that people used to smile at you at the store, not frown because they are frustrated because they can't check out in a more timely manner. Traverse City has changed and unfortunately has brought the ugly along for the ride.

Debra on Thursday, February 16, 2006 at 1:25pm, Littleton, CO: After reading Zach Robinson's post describing TC as a wonderful place to live, I was wondering if anyone (current or past residents) could please enlighten me on what it is like to live in TC and why it is such a special place? I am a Michigan native who will be returning to live in the state this coming summer. I have long considered settling down in Traverse City. I have visited the area several times and it is such a beautiful place but I am curious about what it is like to actually live there. Why do you love living in Traverse City? Is there anything about it that you dislike? I would appreciate your insight very much, you can email me at debcapcat@aol.com Thank you!

Kelly Pellock on Friday, February 17, 2006 at 12:34am, Plainfield, IL: I googled my maiden name and came up with an entry that had listed a daughter born to Michael and Sherri Schoech on June 14,2004 of Kingsley. I am just looking to possibly pick your brain and see if there is any relation----after all-it is an odd name and I was told by my Dad that anyone with this name is related in some way. If anyone knows this couple please give them my e-mail which is: s.pellock@comcast.net--Thanks!!!

Zach Robinson on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at 4:20pm, Hattiesburg, Mississippi: I am an old resident of Traverse City. It by far is the best place in the world. I miss living on East ninth street. It has been many years since I have been "home" to Traverse City, but I am planning to make the 1137 mile journey soon. I can't wait to get home.

Renee Stevenson on Friday, January 20, 2006 at 3:25pm, Westland, MI: I just read the article about the local Boys and Girls Club having financial trouble and closing temporarily until money can be raised. I donate to help the children in our community so they have the attention, guidance, and supervision they need. I would like to encourage all readers to do the same. Every week it seems that there are articles about drugs and sex crimes involving children. We desperately need the help of organizations like the Boys and Girls Club to help interact and intervene with the children that have a single parent that is at work after school or the children that aren't in the best neighborhoods and don't have the good examples being set for them by family, friends, or neighbors. For the Boys and Girls Club I wish speedy success in the fundraising efforts. Sincerely, Renee Stevenson

I know it was a very trying time for Kathy to go through while Ron was there. I am in the same position. I hope this will put closure on all your heart aches soon and all the family will help with their support. God heals all,my prayers for you, Betsy Mackey.

Sue Conklin on Monday, January 2, 2006 at 3:55pm, Irvine, CA: I am trying to locate Lisa Weber. She and I were good friends when she lived out here. At the time her last name was Weber-Roehl. She loved her hometown and returned there. Would love to catch up with her!

Cheryl Nunn on Sunday, January 1, 2006 at 10:42pm, Naples, Florida: Anyone that graduated from TC High School class of 1978 still around Traverse City? I have been in Florida for 25 years now and miss Traverse City so much! It would be nice to talk to someone. Orchid1960@earthlink.net. Thank you!

John Lober on Sunday, January 1, 2006 at 5:25pm, Traverse City, MI: My condolences to the family of Ruth Earl. Ruth and I taught together at TC Central and during that time we become good friends. She had a distinctive laugh and we always seemed to find humor in something. We shared many of the same students and as I taught physical Education she and I would compare notes on a student and usually find the best way to "get to" them. Please take care and know that many of her former colleagues arethinking about you at this time. Sincerely, John Lober, 501 w. 10th TC 49684.

Ryan M. Eashoo (ryaneashoo@aol.com) on Thursday, December 29, 2005 at 11:38pm, Flint, MI: I think the Film Festival that Michael Moore helped put on was a huge success. I know me and 6 friends made a special trip to Traverse City to be a part of it. We spent over 2,000 on lodging, food, gas, and entertainment. I look forward to it next year, and THANK MICHAEL MOORE FOR ALL HIS HARD WORK IN THE WORLD! RYAN M. EASHOO

Tom Deel on Thursday, December 29, 2005 at 7:56pm, St. Petersburg, FL: To Scott Leonard ... I started visiting the Traverse City area in 1971 and lived there from April 1986 to November 1996. To the best of my knowledge, I never ate at Pete's ... BUT nearly every day since 1979 I have drank coffee from a PETE's coffee cup. That's every day - often many times a day. In fact, I'm drinking from one now. My father-in-law loved that restaurant and somehow talked the owner into selling (or giving) him two coffee cups. They are amazing. I use them constantly and they look brand new. They are small and very 1950's looking. They still look brand new - no wear at all because I always gently hand wash them. They say PETE'S in all capital letters and underneath that it says "Traverse City". There's also a couple of cherries with stem and leaves above the PETE'S and a sort of amber-colored bunning that rings the lip of the cup. They're wider at the bottom than at the top. They have that old-timey beige ceramic finish and probably hold 4 ounces of liquid tops! DOH! But I truly treasure them ... partly because my father-in-law also used to drink coffee from them in the mornings.

emeka BIG on Thursday, December 15, 2005 at 07:08am, Lome, Kare: VERY GOOD SITE KEEP IT UP!

Scott Leonard on Friday, December 9, 2005 at 2:41pm, Houghton, MI: To Alice Beckett. Yes that was my father who graduated from TC in 1948. He passed away in a car accident a couple of summers ago at age 74.

Guillermo Wolburg on Monday, November 28, 2005 at 5:49pm, Houston, Texas: Hello. I am trying to locate a former teacher at Traverse City Junior High. I attended TCJH when it first opened back in 1970. I don't recall the subject he taught, but I believe it was World History. I am trying to contact him in order to thank him for the guidance and support he gave me. He is one of the important figures in my life. His name is Robert Bacon. I would appreciate any information that anyone may provide me with regarding his whereabouts. Thank you.

Douglas Fessant on Friday, November 25, 2005 at 6:44am, Traverse City, MI: Mom,no one loved you more that I did.Your son,Doug. Dcwrench@earthlink.net.

Alice (Coddington) Beckett on Sunday, November 27, 2005 at 12:01am, Eugene, Oregon: To Mr. Leonard. I believe I knew your father. Was he Bob Leonard who graduated in 1948? I did read that he had an accident and did not survive. He was a nice kid and a real gentleman. Alice Beckett

Aaron Earleywine on Friday, November 18, 2005 at 6:43pm, Wichita, KS: I hope to visit Traverse City the Spring of 2006. I hear it's a nice city.

Scott Leonard on Thursday, November 17, 2005 at 12:57pm, Houghton, MI: I like to read the Record Eagle on line everyday to see what is happening in the greater Traverse area. My dad is originally from Traverse City and grew up on Randolph Street so we used to spend a lot of summers near Traverse on Long Lake where my grandparents lived at the time. My grandparents used to manage and later owned Pete's Cafe in downtown Traverse City but is now closed for many years. I continue to come back to the Traverse area at least once a year and love it there and in the surrounding area. The paper keeps in me in touch some what with whatever roots I have there. Thank you for doing such a great job with the paper.

Eze Biko on Monday, November 14, 2005 at 1:20pm, Texas, Maryland: Keep the good work going.

Maureen Johnson on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 5:46pm city: Preeceville, Sask, CAN: Hello, I am trying to find a lost member of our family tree. I am hoping someone can help me. I am looking for Ernest Jomen, his father was Evin Halvor Jomen born June 25, 1856 died Sept 9,1920. His mother was Anna Kasja Loberg born Feb 17, 1866 and died Oct 25, 1915. Ernest was born about 1905 or 1906. He was 15 when his father died at Sylvan Lake, Alberta. His sister went there to bring her little brother and her dad for burial in Saskatchewan. Randi Coste on Friday, September 16, 2005 at 9:12am, Suttons Bay, Michigan: Having grown up enjoying the TC area, it was always a dream to move here (from downstate). Two years ago I did. I bought a beautiful 3 acre parcel and put a cute ranch on it. Suttons Bay is now home, the place of my ancestors. I couldnt think of a more wonderful place to live, and I have lived all over this country and briefly in Europe. This is the best place in the world, thank you Record Eagle for keeping me up to date while I was gone and for assisting in my job search when I returned. I promise, I won't leave again!

Karl Steven Keene on Thursday, August 18, 2005 at 4:16pm, Moorhead, MN: I'm a native of Traverse City. My grandfather, Karl S. Keene, was founder of the Traverse City Lumber Company(Yellow Sheds)which used to be across from the Holiday Inn, where Front Street and Railroad Street come together. He was also a former president of the Traverse City Country Club(in the 1950's). I lived in Traverse City from 1955 until 1971. I attended Glen Loomis Elementary School from 1961-1963, when we lived on Union Street. I remember the old soap box derby races that were held down Boughey Hill at the top of Union Street. We moved to Rose Street when I was in 2nd grade, and I attended Oak Park Elementary School through the sixth grade. I went to Junior High for 7th & 8th grade at the old building where my mom, dad, and Grandpa - Vern Dewar, had also gone for High School. My sister Cheryl was Citizen of the Month in January of my 7th grade year (she was an 8th grader). And I was Citizen of the month in February of that year - (name recognition?)! Our ninth grade class was the first one to attend the new junior high building up on Silver Lake Road. In 10th grade I moved to Lansing, graduating from Lansing Eastern High in 1974. Even so, I've always considered myself to be a Trojan! Jim Ooley's teams were the most exciting to watch - and fun to cheer for! They made it to the first state championship on my birthday, but couldn't pull out the victory. I attended every playoff game and the exciting championship game they did win in 1978 at the Pontiac Silverdome. What great memories! Of course the Cherry Festival left an indelible mark on my heart. We used to watch the children's parade from Lay Park, across from the Post Office! I even remember the old Mummers Parade (one they should bring back). I've lived out in the Red River Valley of eastern North Dakota and Western Minnesota since 1989. I really miss the hills, trees, lakes and PEOPLE of the TC area! It's always a pleasure to get back for a visit. Perhaps, one day, I will return for good. Traverse City will always be home! Please take good care of her for those of us who can't be there right now!

Joey and KayKay Le Brun on Thursday, August 11, 2005 at 6:40pm, Mesa, AZ: Originally from Bay City, we spent a couple weeks this last June in the TC area on vacation. Living in Arizona for the last 15+ years, we forgot the beauty of the green, great fresh air and wonderful folks of Michigan. Soon our summers will be spent back home. We look forward to returning to our roots!

Heather Anderson on Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at 3:53pm, Barrington, IL: Last week we were vacationing at our cottage on Torch Lake. I was quite appalled with the condition and misuse of the Sandbar. First of all, it was overcrowded with boats, individuals drinking alcoholic beverages, urinating in gorgeous Torch Lake and using profane language. Lastly, a man and woman were engaged in inappropriate sexual behavior. Do parents want to expose their young children to this environment? NO... Let's clean up our act and keep Torch Lake beautiful.

Milisa Bergeron on Thursday, July 14, 2005 at 7:43pm, Houma, Louisiana: Great Job

Tyler "Jester" Harris on Saturday, July 9, 2005 at 12:11am, Traverse City, Michigan: Whats up, this is Tyler Harris aka Jester I just want to give a shout out to my boys in tc and say that you should support tragic city hip hop, oh and FTC. thank you

Elbert Ford on Friday, July 8, 2005 at 10:58pm, Ocala, FL: Finally settled in my new home after 32 years of uncomparable Traverse City living. At one time I worked for 12 years for Max's Service as an appliance repairman. After a stroke rendered my right side useless it's impossible to find their equivilent here. I was born and raised in Missouri but when I think of home I think of TC where I raised my children. I'll always think of you. I read the online Record-Eagle every day.

Heather Anderson on Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at 10:36am, Barrington, IL: Every summer I look forward to vacationing at our cottage on Torch Lake. I'm the 5th generation in my family to spend time there. I feel it is one of the most beautiful spots in the world! I love visiting Charlevoix, Northport Point, Suttons Bay and Traverse City. This is a very special summer for my family and I because we are building a cottage (new construction) which is scheduled to be completed very soon. I enjoy reading the Record-Eagle when we are up north. Have a great summer! Heather

Bonnie Bellmer on Friday, July 1, 2005 at 1:55pm, Petoskey, MI: Hello, I was blessed to be born in Traverse City, on July 24,1935. However I have never lived there. My family lived on South Manitou Island, MI. My mother, Mae Tobin, being born & raised on the island, never thought to call a taxi, when she was staying in a boarding house in Traverse City, waiting my arrival. When it was time to give birth to me, mother walked past the mental hospital, which was a few blocks, to Munson Hosp., where I arrived. After a short hospital stay, my father Francis Caron, who was in the USCG, on the island, picked her up, & they traveled to Glen Haven, catching the Coast Guard boat, for my first boat ride home to the island. My mother's mother was Charlotte Hutzler Tobin, daughter of one of the first farmers on the island. My grandmother Charlotte Hutzler Tobin, was the postmistress at their general store, which later became a museum. My grandfather John K. Tobin, was one of the many lighthouse keepers', along with several of my great uncles. One of them being Ernest Hutzler. When grandfather Tobin was the lighthouse keeper, his family lived in the quarters, attached to the lighthouse. My mother Mae Tobin Caron, at age 92, is one of the oldest Hutzler survivors. She has many wonderful stories, & memories of the people who also lived there. One of my fondest memories while living there, was taking grandpa's lunch up the many spiral steps to the top of the light. At the age of 7, it was an awesome trip. Also being able to go to Bertha Hutzler Peth's candy store, where she would play music on the organ. If anyone is interested in visiting with my mother & learning of the island adventures, my email is: cebonners67@webtv.net - Thank you so much Traverse City, for a great birth city. Bonnie Bellmer

Susan Hopkins on Thursday, June 30, 2005 at 9:42am, Elizabeth, CO: Looking for historical information re: the Boardman Valley Hospital in TC. My friends and I used to visit it when we were students at NMC in 1970 and had trouble even then finding information about it. Would appreciate any leads re: websites, etc. offering info. on it. Please respond by signing the guestbook.

Jason Hill on Friday, June 24, 2005 at 1:55pm, Indianapolis, IN: I hope everyone in the Traverse area realizes what treasure lays at your feet. Remember to love your Mother, Nature that is. I hope to come back and visit. I think of the area and that alone brings me peace.

David Runk on Monday, June 20, 2005 at 12:11pm, Lady Lake, FL: Hey,I love this paper! I grew up in Antrim County, and I always read the Record Eagle there, but it was usually in the paper form, haha! I am glad it is online, so I can keep up with what is happening. And one reason I was inclined to put this in here,is the question Brian Z had about Brownwood, the old restaurant, in Torchlake. The people that ran that restaurant for many years, are now here in Florida running a huge retirement community, and I work at one of their Country Clubs. Now with that said,I just want everyone to know T.C is awesome! I hope to come back for vacations(in summer only, haha) David.

Jaime on Monday, June 20, 2005 at 11:54am, McAllen, TX: Hi Jaime Garza again, I am sorry my last submission had some wrong info. I am still looking for my friend Bob, last name unknown, he used to live on Narrow Gauge Rd. not Eldrige Rd. as I had stated before. He has moved to Lake Ann. I did go to where he lived before and the nice people there told me where he had moved to. I will be going to Beulah in summer 2006, and will continue my search. I think about him now and then and sometimes wonder what he is doing. If anybody has any info with this new info, please e-mail me at jaimegarza91@msn.com. Thanks again.

Brian Z on Friday, June 3, 2005 at 12:48pm, Central Lake, MI: was looking for information on the old now abandoned brown wood inn on east torch lake drive in torch lake? any help would be nice.

Joseph Fasi on Thursday, June 2, 2005 at 8:32am, Milwaukee, WI: How jealous I am that you get to live in TC and I can just log on to the Web cam on West Bay from the Holiday Inn and dream about coming back to TC for my yearly visits. Traverse City is my favorite place in the world and dreaming of retiring there on Skegemog lake keeps me going daily and motivated. Please never lose the wonder and appreciation of living in beautiful TC. We have nothing in Wisconsin as beautiful as North West Lower Michigan. All the best, Joe Fasi.

Renee Stevenson on Thursday, June 2, 2005 at 12:17am, Westland, MI: I have just recently been curious about the goings on in the Traverse City area. I used to live in Copemish, and I graduated from Benzie Central High School in 1999. I have been away now for about 5 long years. I plan to work hard and eventually move back to beautiful northern Michigan. I am just so glad that I can read about home even though I'm so far away. Thanks!!

Brian on Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at 5:16pm, Torch Lake, MI: Our family has had a home on the south end of Torch Lake for 40+ years, and absolutely adore the entire "Up North" experience. Although I am now living in San Diego, CA, it's without fail that I spend a portion, if not all, a summer there. Long ago, I outgrew shoveling and living in snow, but the summers (not 2004!) are typically gorgeous and fun-filled with family activities. Looking forward to seeing you in the next month, TC!

Suzanne Sloan on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 12:59pm, Hartwell, GA: My husband is from Macomb County and I am from the state of Delaware, we met while we were living in Florida and we now live in Georgia, but we are saving our money so we can relocate to Traverse City. I have never been, but he says it is beautiful and I can see that is true! I can't wait til we can move from here and have a home "up north"!

Will Havill on Monday, May 2, 2005 at 10:47am, Seattle, WA: Wow, I can't believe how long it has been since I have lived in Traverse City. 4 years in Kalamazoo going to school. Working In Chicago for a year and now just moved to Seattle, Washington. Thanks Record Eagle for keeping me up to date on the city I still call home and love! willwmu@yahoo.com

Dave DeMaw on Saturday, April 30, 2005 at 12:13am, Tolland, CT: I was sorry to read of Dave Drake's passing. We were both in the TCHS band in the mid 60s. Dave's obit mentioned that he had been in several bands, including the David Paxton Band. I did a search and was able to enjoy some music and music videos featuring Keith Brown and Dave Eickenroth. Keith was also in the TCHS band.

Lucia and Kelley Bishop on Thursday, April 28, 2005 at 3:58pm, Valdosta, GA: Enjoyed reading the inspirational article about Katie. We are sharing it with our Sunday School classes. We are all to grow from her sharing her wonderful life with others. Last week I looked in the guest book of our garden center here in Valdosta and saw visitors from Traverse City. What a small world!

Andy Abend on Friday, April 22, 2005 at 4:59PM, Portland, Oregon: Hello. I have been recently looking at the Record Eagle for about three months now. I moved from Michigan in 2001, I moved to San Diego, which in fact was paradise, and now live in beautiful but sometimes rainy Portland, oregon. I am now twenty six and am glad not to ever see snow again, except when visiting during the holidays. My heart will always be in T.C., but always have loved to travel. Thanks for this opportunity to write people in my home town. Thanks and God bless. Andy.......

Jaime Garza on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at 1:30PM, McAllen, TX: I lived in Beulah, till we moved to Texas, when I lived in Mi. I had a friend by the name of Bob. That is all I remember, I do remember where he lived. I say lived, because his family moved to the Lake Ann area. It has been over 30 yrs., but I still wonder what has become of him? He used to live on Eldrige Rd. right outside of Beulah. If anyone has any info. please let me know, or if you read this and it is you please write back to me. jaimegarza91@msn.com Thanks for all the help.

Jim Burkeon Monday, April 18, 2005 at 7:10AM, Ft. Myers, FL: I just want to say hi to Traverse City and all the old friends I had there. I left in 1990 for Florida and have been selling real estate and enjoying the warm weather ever since. I loved it up there in Traverse City when I lived there and I enjoy keeping up on the area by reading the Record Eagle online. Wendy on Thursday, April 7, 2005 at 4:03PM, Dallas, Texas: Just stopping by to see whats new.

Russ on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at 2:17P.M., Pensacola, Florida: Thanks for always being available. No matter what countries I have been to in the world or will be going to next, I know that I can keep some contact with the home town (Benzonia). I have been in the military for 17 years now and look forward to my return to cherry blossoms, hunting and fishing, and yes snow. I will take the worst snow storm you can throw compared to living through Hurricane Ivan. You can insulate for cold and snow. You can't really prepare for 130+ mile an hour wind, 10.5' of storm surge, and 14+" of rain. Take care everyone, I will be thinking of you from way down South. aux_bec_scies@yahoo.com

Ann Wyatt on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 11:16A.M., Arlington, TX: Hi. I was born and raised in TC and have been gone for a number of years but come back 3-4 times a year to visit and for the Festival for sure. I would love to hear from other TC residents so I can keep up on whats going on, etc. and would love to be email pals. I so miss the area, but job took me away to Texas where I have been for several years now. My email address is: wytann@aol.com

Lynn on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 10:16A.M., TC, MI: GLACIER BAY! please Elmwood township, we don't need it. Have you been to the Wisconsin Dells? What was once a beautiful area is now just one long, concrete display of consumerism. Don't let this happen to us. Traverse City is a special place, and we don't need to scar it even more with this development. We don't need it. There are greater goods in the world than the material kind and money and economics. If people don't like it, or can't find what they need on their 10-day vacations "up north", then they can stay downstate.

Janine Kyle on Monday, March 14, 2005 at 11:13P.M., Traverse City, MI: I noticed there were several entries saying that they graduated from TC High in 1966. I too graduated in 1966, but from Fort Collins, CO H.S. Is there anyone out there who lives in Ft. Collins, who also graduated in 1966? We have more than just age in common. I believe those of us over 50 can honestly say we lived during some powerful times. We spoke up for what we believed in...we felt we had hope in our future and all we had to do was stand up for our beliefs. Many of us lived through the Viet Nam War and Flower Power...some of us did not. But all of us are nearing the age where we are thinking about retirement. I am glad FDR had the foresight to create Social Security Insurance for retirement. I didn't realize when I was 20-40 how important saving for retirement would be. I don't gamble, I believed my money was safe in a Money Market account once, and again in an IRA. Both resulted in dismal interest earnings when I was forced to cash them early, due to personal emmergencies. I have had friends who lost everything in the 1985 stock market crash, and again during the .com fall out. All of these "futures markets" are nothing more than gambling. I don't want to gamble with my retirement. Do you? How about your grandchildren? I love living in TC--think it's God's Country, but Ft. Collins was once small and beautiful, too. Population happens. People procreate and have to live somewhere. TC is almost in Canada--far away from the rest of the mainland--has several cloudy days and sometimes lots of humidity in the summer. Perhaps these drawbacks will keep TC somewhat small, God's Country and a wonderful place to retire. J-Neen kylestuart@peoplepc.com

Kelly Weller on Friday, March 11, 2005 at 9:33A.M., Boyne City, Michigan: What happened to America that "tolerance" and "offensive" have taken on such distorted new meanings. To me "tolerance" is having to deal with something very unpleasant, not accepting people for who they are. I don't want my children to think that anyone is any less than they are. We are all different and that IS normal. Celebrating each others individuality should be taught by their families and accepted by society. We are the melting pot of many different races and cultures, most previously existing and some new. If someone puts their beliefs in front of your child tell them that you live in an amazing world, with wonderous people and cultures and that you raise them the way you want to and will answer any questions that they have. I, personally, am offended by lewd behavior and language which never comes up in a conversation about what is now considered "offensive". Let's just live our lives, let our children be children, teach them to "accept" not "tolerate" and let "offensive" be something that is disturbing the way you raise your child not an excuse so that you don't have to explain that there ARE other people in the world. And please use your freedom of speech to display your religiuos and cultural beliefs so that my child can learn about this incredible little place called America.

Dave DeMaw on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at 12:53PM, Tolland, CT: I continue to enjoy reading the online Record Eagle and the Guestbook to see who has checked it. I read the previous entry by D'Arcy. I also would have graduated in 1966, but moved to Connecticut for my senior year. I look fondly at my years in TC. It holds a special place for me. Regards, Dave

Racquel Davis on Monday, March 7, 2005 at 9:46PM, Virginia Beach, VA: I'm originally from TC and come here quite often reading the tc news. :) My maiden name was (ughhh) Wendy Penney so if any of my long lost favorite ppl read this, email me! undefinededges@yahoo.com

D'Arcie (Oatley) Kisner on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at 9:57AM, Novi, MI: Hello Traverse City and the Traverse City Central Trojans! I have been away from Traverse for over 30 years and was a 1966 graduate of Central High. I have really enjoyed reading the Record Eagle on line - it is great to keep up with the activities there. I do not get a chance to visit as my family is scattered across the world from Florida to Peru so am busy visiting them at their locations. Remember fondly the winters skiing at Holiday and Hickory Hills (maybe they no longer exist!). Ice fishing was also a must! I now cross country ski as am afraid the down hill skiing would be a bit much. Keep up the good work with The Record Eagle. It is a wonderful communication for all of us previous residents to read. kizdrc@msn.com

Jenny Mankowski on Friday, February 18, 2005 at 3:33PM, Gaylord, MI: I like the site for the Record Eagle. Even though I am not from TC I still think that it's important to know what's going on. Thanks for the awesome site!! Keep it going. :)

Teri on Friday, February 18, 2005 at 1:58PM, Michigan: Dear Everyone, I am looking for a young woman named Stacy Yohn. Her grandmother is not doing well. Stacy left the Detroit area last June and has not contacted her parents or grandparents since then. I think if she knew her grandmother wasn't doing well, she would contact her. The last I heard she was in Traverse City. I hope someone would read this and tell her to call her "Busha" or Grandma Grace. They really miss her. Thank you.

Asaba Owerri, February 16, 2005 at 8:50AM, Aba/Enugu, Nigeria, Africa: I love this page. It looks really nice and good. Keep it up.

Debra on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at 9:17PM, Littleton, CO: Paging Michael McCoy formerly of Denver now living in TC! I live n the Denver area and am ery much looking forward to moving to the TC area at the end of 2006. Michael if you read this message, would you please email me at debcapcat@aol.com and let me know how the move went. I am very curious to find out if you indeed moved your family to TC and how you are adjusting tot the weather and how living in TC compares to living here in the Denver area. Thank you and to all of you in TC, I hope that you can make room for two more in your city. I promise that we will do our best to be an asset to the community (paying taxes, volunteer work, etc...)!

Nick on Sunday, February 13, 2005 at 12:45PM, Traverse City, MI: Well done newspaper. I recently read of a 13 year old TC girl who has been missing since about Friday. Would you please let her family know that I will include her and their entire family in my daily prayers! Such an awful thing to happen here in our beautiful T.C. God bless each and every one of you! Nick B.

Gwenda Zietsch on Thursday, February 10, 2005 at 7:31AM, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia: My name is Gwenda Zietsch and I live in Brisbane, Queensland Australia. I enjoyed reading 'Record-Eagle' for the first time today. The article on scleroderma is of particular interest as I have scleroderma. The weather here is very hot and can at times be unbearable so unless we have air-conditioning at home it is easy to find an excuse to browse the shops in shopping centres or in our backyard pools. The water however has lately been warm so it doesn't do much to cool us down. Great to have the opportunity to communicate with you in Northern Michigan. My email address is:gwenzietsch@hotmail.com

Driver Mumu on Monday, February 7, 2005 at 7:47AM, Jackson, Missouri: Moved to northern Arizona just over one year ago, and I'm glad I have the opportunity to keep up with the TC news and to follow the TCSF sports. Go Glads.

Bree Beyette on Saturday, February 5, 2005 at 11:52 PM, Frankfort, Michigan: I really think Alisha Glass is so awesome. I always look forward to watching her play. I really think she is my role model and she is so nice. I wish her luck in the future. Well, Alisha, if you see this "hey".

Teri Buikema on Friday, February 04, 2005 at 9:35 PM, Fruitport, Michigan: I have family and some friends that live in your area and like to read your local paper better than my own local paper. I am looking for some people to write back and forth to. My address is parkeyjo@yahoo.com I hope to move to northern Michigan one day so my daughter can see the beauty of northern Michigan.

Lill-Ann (Henriksen)Megaard on Thursday, October 14, 2004 at 05:00:29, Oslo, Norway: Hi those who are from TCHS class of'84. I can't wait to come back to the US after 20yrs away! Just wanted to let THE Record Eagle know that I love being able to read about TC from Scandinavia ! Hugs to all my old "buddies" Lil'

Michael J. McCoy on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at 10:34:10, Denver, Colorado: There is nothing like Traverse city in the fall. The colors are bright, people are friendly, it is not that cold yet, and it is football season. High school games, college games and of course our Detroit Lions are doing great! I left in the 80's and moved to Denver Colorado. Talk about a big town and still growing fast. Denver can not compete to Traverse city. I will take that small town anyday and that is why I am moving my family back to T.C. I look forward to seeing all my family and friends again. T.C here we come in November.

Paul Dawson on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 10:03:18, Louisville, Kentucky: My daily routine is to first read the Record-Eagle on-line. I live in Louisville, Kentucky, but I have recently bought a house in Elk Rapids and will move up there in April, 2005. I love the web cam shot from atop the Holiday Inn that the Record-Eagle provides. The view of the bay always puts me in a good mood, and I'm so looking forward to living up in God's country---beautiful Traverse City and the surrounding area!

Jaime Garza on Thursday, September 30, 2004 at 13:47:45, McAllen, TX: We were there just this past summer and we had a great time. My family consists of my wife Cindy, daughter Jamie and son Jaime Jr. We stayed at an RV park and let me tell you, we met some fantastic people, mainly from the Michigan area. We spent a little over 2 wks. in the area. We loved the Cherry Festival; we think it is a great event and look forward to it every time we come to visit the rest of the family, which still live in the area. Hello Dago Garza and Licha G. Sanchez who live in the Benzonia area. We plan to be back in the area in 2006 God willing. I just wanted to let everyone know that we had a fantastic time and hope to be back soon.

Chuck Wright on Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at 16:28:29, Traverse City, Michigan: Try to be a little more consistent placing various newsbits, events, etc.. Most importantly don't put the comics in the same section with obits.

David Kjeldgaard on Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at 14:49:35, Honolulu, HI: Aloha! I'm a regular reader of the Record Eagle online. I am married to the former Margaret Harty of Traverse City and our family will be relocating to Traverse City next summer. Margaret and I left Traverse City in 1989 to follow my career in the Coast Guard. Margaret is a 1986 graduate of St. Francis HS. We are looking forward to re-connecting with friends and family. We'd like to hear from any of our old friends and can be reached at dkjeldgaard@hawaii.rr.com.

Norma on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at 20:44:55, Naples, FL: Hello from Florida. We had a busy week cleaning up from Hurricane Charley. I think, I like the snow better. At least you have a choice if you want to go out in the cold. Charley could not be stopped.

Sue Smith on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at 13:33:23, Waterford, MI: Traverse City Record Eagle is a great paper. I always enjoy reading it when I come to T. City. I like looking at it on line also. I am from Waterford, Michigan.

Dave DeMaw on Friday, August 13, 2004 at 00:51:12, Tolland, CT: Hello! I lived in Traverse City from 1961-1965 and would be happy to hear from any old friends and acquaintances. Lived on Munson Avenue where the 7-11 store (near NMC) is now! Later I lived at 10598 Peninsula Drive, just a mile or so past Gray Road. Attended TCHS & played in the band. Really enjoyed West Bay and camping on Ford Island. Thanks, Dave DeMaw

Dan Bulmer on Sunday, August 8, 2004 at 09:03:26, Harrison, MI: I am just starting to read your paper online. I have family living in Frankfort. This allows me to keep up on local news and weather. Thank you. Best Wishes, DJB.

Jerry K. Aukerman on Monday, August 2, 2004 at 05:47:33, Modesto, CA: Hi, I just found the site of the Record. I live in the central valley of California. I have been looking at real estate sites and info on Traverse City and the surrounding area. If anyone would like to send me their thoughts on what it's like living there please email me. I have thought about moving there one day and would like to hear opinions from residents. My email: mttrail2000@hotmail.com. Thank You, Jerry :)

Anna Woloschin on Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 15:36:02, Warren, MI: Love reading the Traverse City Record-Eagle. Was there over the 4th of July visiting my brother-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law. Hi to Rich and June Monroe and Peg and Stan Goodmen. Love you all, Ann & Bob

Peter Bivona on Thursday, July 8, 2004 at 13:43:51, Traverse City, MI: My wife of 5 years and I just relocated to Old Mission Peninsula from Long Island, NY. We were burnt out from our jobs and the commute tom NYC. My wife went to Michigan State so I've visited the area a few times and fell in love with it. No more east coast heat and humidty or airconditioning bills. We bought a house 9 miles north of town near Bowers Harbor and want to start a family and a new life. We are beyond happy to leave NY and CANNOT wait for winter:)

Sandra (Sandy) Maginity on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at 23:48:14, Benzonia, MI: I appreciate the Record Eagle. I also appreciate the area I grew up in with the beautiful Crystal Lake. When you come in to Beulah from Honor just as you crest the hill coming down in to town the lake appears. Each time it is a different shade. Isn't God's creation wonderful?

Barbara Spring on Sunday, July 4, 2004 at 07:42:28, Grand Haven, MI: I am pleased that Big Rock is being carefully dismantled. This is what should happen to all 37 nuclear power plants in the Great Lakes watershed. Since storing high level waste on site is not a good idea, I hope that the target date of 2012 will be met for its removal. We can't afford to let nuclear by products get into the Great Lakes. Nick Smyka on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at 14:54:15, Traverse City, MI: Wow! Life in Northern Michigan is great: everyone goes to their professional lives in polo shirts to make an easy transition to the golf course in the evening. While setting up and running small businesses in Traverse City, entrepreneurs, doctors and all professionals should enjoy the IT knowledge of Terrapin Network Services! We all love the pertinent reporting and local flavors of the Record Eagle. Enjoy the local business computer expertise of certified network technicians at Terrapin Network Services. Thanks for having a pleasantly relaxed website Record Eagle! Good Day....

Lena Bellemore, on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at 12:46, St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada: I am a former resident of T.C., MI. I lived there for 24 years, born and raised, and graduated from Traverse City Senior High, (now known as Central), in 1997. I am living in Ontario, Canada now, but my family still resides in my hometown. I love the Record-Eagle site, because it keeps me up to date on the local news that I obviously don't receive. There's also nothing better than coming back home for my vacations. Traverse City Record-Eagle, keep up the good work.

Jeremy, on Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 12:19, Columbus, Ohio: I moved down here in January and I will miss the beautiful beaches and the Cherry Festival and on and on. There is so much to the place that you can't put your finger on just one thing and say, "Thats what makes it great" because there are more things than I can care to count that make northern Michigan the place to be. I know that as soon as I get a degree down here I'm coming right back up. Thanks.

Jan Milbert, on Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 04:25, Naples, Florida: I was looking for Terri Haugens gallery in Frankfort (the La Sirnes Galerie D'Art). Her work is just wonderful and just thought her gallery should be in the area Art Gallery news. I look at your paper every time I get a chance. I am originally from Traverse City and like to keep up on my home town.....Thank You.

Keith and Norma, on Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 08:20, Naples, Florida: We are from Michigan. That is why we are wanting to come home! We are not from Florida. The lady that wrote a reply to my last entry was rude. Are you sure you're not from Florida? That is why we want to come home to Michigan - to get away from the rude and overcrowded highways.

Hoov3r on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at 12:06:04, T.C., MI: Imo, the city commission is Unfair and biased. RECORD EAGLE ROCKS!!!!! \M/

Sandra Maginity on Monday, June 14, 2004 at 00:01:22, Benzonia, MI: Hi! I was reading through the interesting comments and I have to agree. Michigan is beautiful. I really enjoy driving down the hill into Beulah and looking to see what color the lake has taken for the day. It is different each time! I left Michigan for a time and moved to Texas. They have beauty too. But they don't have a lake that will match Crystal Lake. At least not where I was! I will admit that when ever I came back for a visit during the 3-4 years I was away I spent time with family and friends. As well as touring around all the places I used to go and showing them to my son. There were some places more enjoyable than others. That is how life goes. I have not located many friends since my return back home. I lost track years ago! There are always those people who are friends even when they do not see each other or communicate. I miss you all, whether here or in Texas or Georgia. If any one recognizes my name please email me. My email addy is sandy_lee_maginity@yahoo.com. God bless you all!

Wendy Sawyer Bowers is one of the most special and wonderful women I have ever had the opportunity to know. My thoughts and prayers are with them all through this most difficult time. Love, Elizabeth Anderson Graham and family

Mike Axon on Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at 10:47:26, Davison, MI: Looking forward to making my big move to the area next week. The special lady in my life is a life long resident, and she has convinced me that up north is better than downstate!

Bouakhanh on Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at 19:46:21, Westland, MI: I have lived in Traverse City all my life and there is no place like it. I live in the Detriot area now with my 3 kids and husband. I don't think I loved T.C. until I moved, but that's why I appreciate it more. I love the city life down here. I often wonder what ever happened to theclass of 95'. I guess the thing is, is that you grow up and leave but always look back at your life. Even if was good or bad. T.C. was the perfect life experience for me. I love all of it's entirety. Heres to living in a small town with big ambitions. [Hi, mom.. (who also works at the Eagle)].

Dana on Monday, May 31, 2004 at 14:02:56, Dallas, Texas: I lived in Traverse City for a year when I was 13 and I hated it. Now that I'm older and a bit wiser, I realize what a beautiful place it really is. I hope to come up within the next few years with my children to visit and maybe buy a summer place. To the few friends I still have there, Howdy and I miss y'all!

Rita on Thursday, May 27, 2004 at 23:54:18, Boise, ID: Mail to voltzwagons@yahoo.com. I grew up in TC. I married my husband in 1970 - he was stationed at USCG TC. We moved to Idaho the day after we were married. No matter where we go, we always meet people who have lived, visited, or have family in TC. It's an extremely popular place! We miss it!

Brian & Mi on Monday, May 24, 2004 at 10:30:40, Grawn, MI: We appreciate the kindness and generosity received by many TC locals. We have moved from Canada and Korea to go to NMC and would like to meet anyone who enjoys the outdoors, cookouts, camping and nature. We are also looking for a barn for the winter, let us know! Thank you for making TC a wonderous place to visit and live.

Gary Perzigian, on Friday, May 21, 2004 at 07:19, Greenville, South Carolina: I was originally from Dearborn and moved away to West Palm Beach and now to Greenville. Always spent my vacations at Crystal Lake and thought this would be the place to retire. Now my beautiful wife has got me MOVING BACK to the area with the intent of enjoying the wonders of the area NOW before retirement! Will be arriving in a few days and can't wait to get back to the wonderful people of Michigan and the beauty of the land & water, Red Wings and Lions and Tigers, and most of all the fishing and hunting. Somebody shut the lights off here when we leave.

Chelsey, on Thursday, May 6, 2004, 14:08, Traverse City, MI: I have grown up in TC and have been attending the Cherry Festival since before I can remember. However, previewing the schedule of events for this summer I was left a little disappointed. There are many events for children such as turtle races, bubble gum blowing contests, tea parties and so on. There are also many events for seniors like eucher tournaments and special breakfast. What about the majority of the Traverse City community? The teens/young adults. Being 18 in Traverse City there isn't much to do anyway but when Cherry festival comes around the city lights up. I love the Cherry Festival but it would just be nice to see some events scheduled for the taste of people my age.

Kimberly Fewins, on Monday, April 26, 2004, 22:09, Okemos, MI: It is always nice to see what is happening back "home", even if we don't live there anymore. Thanks for the website.

Liz, on Friday, April 23, 2004, 12:35, T.C., MI: PLEASE stay downstate. we live here, we can call the snow "pesky" if we want too. You will never really appreciate this place. Take your kohls, your applebee's and your suvs and stay downstate. Don't ruin my home anymore and make it everything you're trying to escape from.

Keith & Norma, on Thursday, April 22, 2004, 20:44: Naples, FL, We live in Florida because of employment. But our hearts are in Michigan. Michigan people are wonderful people. And, it is a great state. We cannot wait to move back.

Paul King, on Thursday, April 22, 2004, 12:31, Ann Arbor, MI, I belive that if the National Cherry Festival can continue to overcharge people for their souvenirs, charge you to see a "free" concert and give you no place to park, then the city can continue to charge them. We all enjoy the festival but coming from someone who grew up in Traverse City they have no problem overcharging those that attend. So go ahead and charge them!!!

Dawn Attruia, on Saturday, April 10, 2004, 01:08: Moreno Valley, CA, Love the guestbook, I've been acquainting myself with the area, the Record Eagle is a great source. My family will be moving to TC at summers end. Looking forward to 4 seasons, & no southern California traffic! What a wonderland, and ideal place to raise children. dattruia@earthlink.net

Hooty-Hoo Hooty-Hoo, on Saturday, March 13, 2004 at 01:32: Traverse City, Michigan, I hope they are able to find a suitable home for all the animals of the zoo. Homes away from the constant drone of cars, trucks and sirens-day and night. Providing suitable habitat and reducing other environmental stress from the aminals could provide opportunities for some pairs to rear off-spring. Something that has not happened in recent years. A more tranquil setting would provide the aminals with a more comfortable life and live naturally within the confines of the zoo.

Paul Edward, on Monday, March 8, 2004, 23:26, Waterford, MI: I love visiting T.C. and my family from Arizona came last summer with me to visit the area. They would like to be here again this summer. Thank you and look forward to spending my summer again in the T.C. area.

John Gauthier, on Thursday, March 4, 2004 at 13:37, Chesterfield, MI: I grew up in Cedar way back when Glen Lake Schools had the mobile trailers for classrooms. My how they've grown in the past 30 years. If the names Milks, Kelley, O'Brien, Bramer, Jones, to name a few bring back memories. jgauthier@wideopenwest.com. The RE keeps me up to date with the Lakers since moving down. Still make the treks for the home made hot dogs in Cedar! Doin' well in Chesterfield but missin' the open spaces of childhood. Hello to all in Leelanau County!!

Cynthia Hockstad, on Monday, March 8, 2004 at 23:32:53, Farmington Hills, Mi: I visit Traverse City every weekend that I am able, as my parents and siblings reside in your beautiful city. One weekend while I was there, we were watching the news, and the weather came on. The weather forecaster made reference to lake effect snow, with these words: "We will have the pesky lake effect snow tomorrow". This offended me as part of the reason I visit and others from all over the world is that beautiful lake effect snow Traverse city is noted for. Traverse City is beautiful all year around, with "pesky" lake effect snow, with rain, sun, or awesome falling leaves. If the weather forecaster felt he was speaking for others, he was unprofessional and out of line. The news is not for his opinion. He is just to give the weather and keep his "pesky" thoughts to himself. Thank you, Cynthia

Bill casey on Friday, March 5, 2004 at 08:27:29, Beulah, MI: Beulah means gods country.

Jennifer Blake, Tuesday, March 2, 2004, 16:14:02, Nashville, Tennessee: (ma_en_gun@yahoo.com) Nashville is a great place to live but I miss Northern Michigan. The Record Eagle keeps me in touch with the area and a taste of home!

Cheryl Purdue, Thursday, February 26, 2004, 14:34:32, Davison, MI: Yow! It's great to hear all the nostalgia and compliments of the area. I just bought a beautiful 5 acres south of TC and can't wait to start loving it..... actually, I think it's already happened!

Jim Bullock, on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at 11:22:37, Camp Morton, Manitoba, Canada: I have to admit....the Record-Eagle is my home page...I open it every morning to read about and keep abreast of what is happening in Northern Michigan. I grew up in the TC area and have been living the last three years in Manitoba... the Record-Eagle is my little bit of home every morning and such a pleasure to read. Thank you for the great job.

Joseph Fasi, on Monday, January 19, 2004 at 14:32:15, Milwaukee, Wisconsin: I love being able to keep informed about my favorite place in the world. Now if only I could figure out how to move my law practice to TC and not have to wait to retire to Skegemog lake for 20 more years. I love to visit and I hope the "natives" appreciate the jewel that is TC!

Mary (Ball) Robinson, on Monday, January 19, 2004 at 11:09:59: grand haven, michigan, hey there record eagle & t.c.! i totally enjoy keeping up on the local news online! i am lucky enough to still be living "up north" somewhat by having a cottage on torch lake but i do totally miss living in t.c. i went to nursing school at nmc, moving to take a "better" nursing posItion downstate and believe me, although the view of the bay is half the pay, it isn't a reason to move. hoping to be back! would love to see record eagle start an online subscriber chat room with other online readers both from t.c. and those who have moved away. also would like more info on the "local stuff" like the weekend things-to-do (ie. torch fest 2004, wake the sun this year) in a "local" column or "voice" section. great work! love the new layout! mary (ball) robinson

GH, on Saturday, January 17, 2004 at 15:32:08, CA: As I scan over the various posts I saw one by an anonymous, on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at 21:46:08, Somewhere in Florida. How true...A lot of us who lived in Michigan wished to be somewhere else. Some of us left. The lucky ones got to return. Wishes come true to teach you a lesson. Be very-very careful what you wish for. Stuck (for now) on the left coast.

Tyler M. James, on Friday, January 16, 2004 at 12:01:40, Wilson, NC: Raised and educated in Traverse City, nice to see how the home fires burn.

I come back at least twice a year and always think about staying. Thanks for the opportunity to read local stories here. I miss the Bay! Jennifer Tobin

Tom Johnson, on Monday, January 12, 2004 at 00:11:26, Elkhart, Indiana: I really enjoy reading the Record Eagle on line. It has been many years since I went to Honor High School and lived in Interlochen, also went to Inland school. after all these years now and then I still see familiar names in the paper. Very refreshing! Keep up the good work.

Patricia, on Sunday, January 11, 2004 at 11:40:55, city: Marysville, CA: Living out here in California I read the Record-Eagle everyday to see what is happening back home. I lived in Gaylord & I read their paper too. I am looking foward to a trip to Michigan in June.

Jerry Schenck, on Saturday, January 10, 2004 at 10:30:56, New Port Richey, FL: My wife and I look at the website nearly each day. We miss the spring, summer and fall weather and watch on TV the cars sliding around in winter. We enjoy the variety of news and information on the Record Eagle website.

T.F., on Friday, January 9, 2004 at 22:27:07, Traverse City, MI: I have lived here since I was 3 and I am now in my early 30's and now that I have 3 children I would like to see something for teens and kids to do around here, taking out the skate rink & putting in a bar?WRONG! We need a chuckie cheese or something.I love it here you get to experience all the seasons with out all the hurricanes, floods, earthquakes and etc..I only wish my family out west could see this place we call Northern Michigan.

Jeff Walker, on Thursday, January 8, 2004 at 07:27:54, Sterling Heights, Michigan: I have been coming up to the Grand Traverse Area for at least 10 years for work. I work for DTE Energy, Michcon. I love the Area and my goal is to move here when I retire. I just purchased 3 acres of Land in Bellaire. I plan on building there and am trying to transfer with my job to Traverse City. Some People here think that I am crazy for moving to the Area, because of the winter. I tell them that it is no colder, only more snow. Actually, the snow is not any worse, if you consider the way people drive here in the Detroit Metro Area. I can't wait to move to the Area, and really like Bellaire and actually anything within the T. C. Area

Lyle Kracht, on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at 21:22:50, Waterloo, WI: Always glad to read the Record Eagle on the internet.Born an raised in the Beulah area , I love to read the news. Keep up the good work.

Thomas Lhamon, on Monday, January 5, 2004 at 17:11:59, Trenton, MI: Those of us who grew up in the Traverse City area should consider ourselves lucky in one respect-driving in snow. To us, 5" of snow is normal and we wouldn't think twice about driving around in it. I've lived in the Detroit area for 8 years now and even the threat of 1" of snow sends people screaming to the stores in a fit of panic to stock up for "the big storm." Yesterday, the parking lot here was blue with salt; 6 hours before the first snowflake had fallen. I always laugh as I look at the horrified faces here and think about those in TC who casually drive through 6" of snow with rear-wheel drive cars and barely bat an eye as they steer out of a 360 degree spin. Then I think about how lucky I was to grow up with that experience.

Kevin Connolly, on Thursday, January 1, 2004 at 22:08:04, Rockford, Michigan: Thanks for all you do -- as taxpayers in Grand Traverse County, its great to know someone at the Record Eagle is paying attention. Kevin Connolly

Chad Thomas (maiznblu_757@yahoo.com) on Monday, December 29, 2003 at 01:57:26, Traverse City, Michigan: Only in Traverse City!!!!!!! A pot smoking judge beats out the war in Iraq as the #1 news story. What a bummer. I just returned from an 8 month deployment aboard the USS Nimitz in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, I thought the war was a pretty important event... I guess not. Thanks Traverse City, your the best!

Jaime Garza, on Monday, December 15, 2003 at 13:01:58, McAllen, TX: Hello to all: It has been about three years since I have set foot in your part of the country. I do plan to go in the summer of 2004, which is why I am writing to you. I wish to know when the Cherry Festival is this year? I would like to plan my summer vacation around it. I love visiting your state it is one of the most beautiful states I have ever been to. I do have family up in Benzonia Co., hi Dago and Licha. Well if someone could send me this info. it will be greatly appreciated.

Valencia Banwell, on Friday, October 10, 2003 at 10:15:03, Rapid City, MI: After living away from the Traverse City area for nearly 20 years, moving back was the best thing my husband & I ever did. We Never Tire of the Glory and Splendor of the scenic views, orchards and the Beauty of the Bays. It's Never Really appreciated until you don't have it - to appreciate. We just love to see the looks on peoples faces that also Admire the Splendor Northern Michigan has to offer!

Mary, on Saturday, September 27, 2003 at 05:58:26, Sault Ste. Marie, MI: Hey there Record Eagle- How about including HOCKEY in your poll of favorite things to do (or see)in the winter. GO Wings!

D, on Friday, September 26, 2003 at 09:42:38, ?, FL: I spent most of my childhood in Traverse, It's a wonderful place to raise kids and I have many happy memories of sledding and (yes) the icecream truck making it's way through my neighborhood and Cherry Festival. I especially remember the parade, It's always great, and Traverse holds alot of places for teenagers and adults to enjoy also. Florida is a gorgeous place, but nothing and nowhere quite compares to Traverse :)Can't wait to go back!

SANDRA ROCK, on Thursday, September 25, 2003 at 14:54:05, Carbondale, Illinios: I lived in traverse city about 5 years ago its a lovely place I was there for 2 years but had to leave my man job takes him many of places. I miss the beautiful water, the hills and trees! Simply put "its paradise!" We hope do come up in the summer of 2004. T Hatty

Ken, on Saturday, September 20, 2003 at 16:25:04, Traverse City, mi, i dont see why not to bring a minor league ball team to tc. im not a sports freak, but i think anything else for recreation in this town would be welcomed. i noticed a proposed plan for a downtown location, which i think is great, AS LONG as the removal of existing historical buildings arent in the way. tc is a good sized town, there are plenty of places to build a stadium, but i dont think down town is a good spot. remember the history this town holds. thx. K

John and Michelle Flint, on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at 08:47:37, Howell, MI: I just wanted to say how beautiful the Traverse City region is. Growing up in the area, I really took it for granted. Now that we've lived in many different areas of the United States, due the U.S. Coast Guard and careers, we can truly say how much we miss it up there and can't wait to move back. Fortunately, our family lives in the area so we are able to visit frequently. Our children enjoy it as much as we do and can't wait to move back "home". To the Yankee family: We miss all of you!!!

J. K., on Monday, September 15, 2003 at 21:02:40, Traverse City, MI: CENTRAL GRADE SCHOOL-------Ok, so all us parents want our children to be healthy and happy. We get all these notes from the school re: HEALTHY SNACKS-LUNCHES AND ALL THAT JAZZZZ! And the Principal and School Officials have the right to hand out CANDY AT ANY TIME TO THE CHILDREN AS A REWARD! Wrong, I don't think so! Ok, Central Grade School, lets get it right, practice what you PREACH!!!!! Concerned Traverse City Parent

Lee Baker, on Sunday, September 7, 2003 at 12:14:59, Culver, Indiana: I was recently on vacation into your area. And the whole area is beautiful. Reminds me of Colorado where my son lives. Kind of wild and untamed. At least traveling up US 31 was that way to me. The lakes I passed as I travel through the area were calm and peaceful. Very restful setting to a person's soul. Hopefully I'll make it back up there again. Thank you for keeping Michigan a small piece of God's country. Lee Baker

me, on Saturday, September 6, 2003 at 13:08:17, Marco Island, Florida: Michigan is the most beautiful place I have ever been, I know alot of people up there are dying to be here, Florida, but I'm just going to tell them to stay content with what they have right now, and where they are, because I am dying to be in Michigan right now. The weather here gets old...fast. It's either really, really hot (95 degrees, 100% humidity)or it's a monsoon. It's not the paradise that it is made out to be.

Scott Rutu, on Monday, September 1, 2003 at 09:01:00, Traverse City, Mi: I am writing about the Amos lawsuit. In the 1st.place it was presented to me that the show was canceled by the center and not her.Second,I am sure that she has got her own catering. It sounds like some promoter just has his panties in a bunch and I believe she should be paid(you paid REBA)AND THERE IS NO PERSON MORE DEMANDING IN MY OPINION. Thanks for allowing me an opinion. (or should I be afraid of a lawsuit)

Kathy Moon, on Saturday, August 30, 2003 at 13:27:45, Sand Lake, Mich: My father is from Buckley, Traverse City area. Recently I have taught him how to get on the computer to read the Record-Eagle. I can't tell how much enjoyment he gets out of it. It amazes me how many people he still remembers. Being that he is 75 he likes to see who is in obits... Your page is full of information on events up there. Keep up the good work!!!

Michael Roach, on Friday, August 22, 2003 at 20:31:42, Phoenix, AZ: Was just back for 10 days in TC, first time back in 7 yrs. My first stopping point was Deerings, for jerky and pickled bologna, (Folks in AZ think I'm nuts for eating pickled bologna)then to North Bar Lake, High Rollaway, then some quality time with friends out at the end of the peninsula near Hasrot Beach. Had to pick up some Old Mission Store T-Shirts for posterity. My 9 year old son, Leland, loved it there, we will be back again soon.

LEILA PASBJERG, on Thursday, August 21, 2003 at 10:08:15, Lancaster, CA: Hi, Me and my husband lived in tc from 93 till 2000 we called buckley our home living on county rd 633 for most of the time there,We miss t.c. alot and are planning on moving back .One of the things we miss the most are all the festivals and the change of seasons and the peaple. Were we currently live it is eigther hot or cold and there is very little color here .We cant wait to be back to see the trees change for the onset of winters arrival.I also enjoy reading the eagle on line out here in california i read it every morning to see what is going on in t.c. thanks to all who make it possible for us here in california to read the eagle daily.sincerly mrs.leila pasbjerg

Tom edgewood, on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at 11:54:14, Portsmoth, Virginia: Flyinwedge(at)aol.com. Just back from three wonderful weeks at Rennie Lake. Been summering for 35 years and its better every year. You have a great community and most hospitable ppulation. keep it so.

Heather, on Friday, August 15, 2003 at 12:14:26, Traverse City, MI: For me School is another chance to get to know different people. Since I will be at the senior high this year I will meet even more peers. Then again I can see how peers would be a little nervous about going since they are older and its a bigger school, joining track was probaly the best thing i could have done I got to know people befor I even got to the school. Ya about the Oil in grawn they should have cleaned it up by now. The power outage at least it wasn't Traverse City

K., on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at 21:53:38, Marco Island, Florida: Traverse is so incredibly beautiful it's not even funny. Anyone who lives there probably does not really realize what a magnificent place it is, I think it's like a painting, the further you are from it, the more you understand it. I want to say hi to my friends and family, I love and miss you all and pray I'll be back someday soon!

anonymous, on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at 21:46:08, Somewhere in Florida: Traverse City is the most beautiful place I have ever been in my whole life. What I wouldn't give right now to be back there and hear the crunching of snow beneath my boots or the smells of dirt and pumpkins, soft warm breezes in the summer and the feeling of something new in spring. But most of all I miss my family, and my friends, and really the thing I miss the most... I miss my cousins, it feels like forever since I've seen them. Anyone who has ever wished they could be anywhere but Michigan should just count their blessings and thank GOD and just be happy, and most important, be careful what you wish for. Seriously.

anonnymous, on Monday, July 28, 2003 at 16:18:56, Marco Island, Florida: If there is one place I could be right now it would be Traverse City. For anyone who is wishing they were in Florida right now, just look around you and please realize how blessed you are. I miss my friends and family, my roots, and seasons.

Mike Nunn, on Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 18:47:44, Interlochen, MI: So nice to get through another Cherry Festival alive. This summer has been a memorable one. It's good to share a season with visitors who think of TC as a home away from home. But it's also good to get our town back from the fudgies after Labor Day. I am looking forward to fall and winter, not because I am tired of summer, but because each season brings a new wonder to living here.

Michael Ferguson, on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at 14:05:41, Pocatello, Idaho: Hi to all in TC. When ever I miss it I can check out what is going on just by visiting the record eagle online. The webcam is great.

Debbie Rademacher, on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at 10:14:49, Houston, Texas: I came home for the Cherry Festival this year for the first time in 20 years. I mingled among the crowds and the open space for 3 nights. I saw only one person that I knew. Where are the locals during this time? I grew up in TC and left in 1983. I was surprised that I didn't see any old friends. The area is as beautiful as ever however. My grandchildren loved the beaches and enjoyed the water at Long Lake and the bay. I was proud to show them where I grew up.

Donald Gies, on Monday, July 21, 2003 at 21:23:10, Bay City, MI: We used to come to Traverse City a few years back ,and went to Underwoods Orchard,on the Penninsula. Is there any one there yet that may have the recipe for the "Sweet Tart" cherry pie and the "Bear Claws" (Almond filled Pastry)? They were very good eating. If anyone knows the ladies who used to work there , we would appreciate hearing from you. Thank You, Don -- P.S "Cousin Jennies" Pasties are also GREAT!.

Alissa Rademacher, on Monday, July 21, 2003 at 10:07:46, Evanston, IL: I am a college student at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. My permanent address is Northport, Michigan. I frequently visit the Record Eagle website just to catch up and to see what's happening in Traverse.

Dave Truscott, on Friday, July 18, 2003 at 23:44:13, Benzonia, MI: Enjoy the Record Eagle-love the outdoor section, but loved it more when it was online, used to read it every week, but now only get to see it on occasion. It should still have its own section, it's one of the best outdoor pages in the state! Put it back online and give us more outdoor news! There's more to our area than cherries and tourists!

Linda Byler, on Monday, July 14, 2003 at 11:17:59, Kalamazoo, MI: A recent visitor to my hometown, Traverse City, I would like to offer a festival commnt: Please consider a banner which can be dropped at the start of the firwork display immediately following the concert at the open space...after War, which was stupendous, viweing for those attending the open space event was blocked by the dual CF banners. How can I obtain info on an entry into the 2004 Heritage Parade??? And lastly, are there any membes of the TCHS "68 class out there making any 35 year plans?

Dave Andersen, on Sunday, July 6, 2003 at 09:40:20, Holladay, UT: Although I enjoy the beauty of the large Western Mountains and big blue skies here in Utah, I always think of TC this time of year and the beautiful lakes, Cherry Festival, and boating. I really enjoy staying in touch by reading this publication online!

fred oakes, on Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at 19:04:21, San Antonio, TX: hi T.C., i use to love visiting there, my cousin Mike Bromley is a long time resident. Next time I visit Michigan,I will be sure and come back to my favorite town in Michigan.....Traverse City

Bob Lilly, on Thursday, June 19, 2003 at 23:30:19, Okinawa, JA: I am currenly stationed in okinawa japan. I am active duty, U.S. Marine Corps. My home is in Tustin Mi., just south of cadillac, I would just like to give thanks to all of you who have stood behind us, your support is greatly appreciated. and I would like to thank the creators of this online paper, it is really the only way i have of knowing what is going on back home, and I really enjoy reading it. thank you, ooh rah!

Jackie, on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at 11:36:35, Inte, MI: This area is so wonderful. I feel so fortunate to be surrouded by state land, lakes and huge trees. Those of you that son't appreciate Northern Michigan need to get out more- Then you'll realize what natural beauty you actually have here at home. Also, "Wendy," If change is needed the only thing I can think of is mabye you should change your location, respectfully. Be happy with life's little blessings and I could not dream of a more "perfect place." Cherries, Cherry Festival and fudgees. I'll take them all!

Dave DeMaw, on Monday, June 16, 2003 at 23:49:31, Tolland, CT: Still missing Traverse City even though I've been out of there for some 38 years. Beautiful place, especially Peninsula Drive, where I once lived. Jim Olmstead of TC passed away on this date 15 years ago.

Selser & Wynona Marcotte, on Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at 14:26:45, Inverness, FL: My wife is from Elk Rapids and we come back for here famoly reunion every year. We love Florida but enjoy coming back.

Gail Drouillard, on Sunday, May 25, 2003 at 17:14:45, Williamston, Michigan: It is nice to be able to see what is going on in different parts of the state by reading their newspapers online. I like the Record-Eagle because I like to go up to Traverse City and Suttons Bay to buy my tart cherry juice concentrate and like to know what is going on when I go up there before hand. Thank you for such a good newspaper. I really appreciate it.

Mr. & Mrs J. Shrewsbery, on Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at 07:30:03, Traverse City, Mi, During our 7 year stay here in Gods country we have been most fortunate to be surrounded by many caring people. To those we say thank you. We wish to especially mention the BATA bus system, the library staff, and all the friends of Bill W. We will miss you all. I would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. M. Hewitt and her staff for the exceptional care they have given over the years.

Nancy Fineout Peterson, on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at 09:36:36, Naples, Florida: I keep in touch with my hometown most everyday. I love to make fun when it's cold and snowbound in the Tundra, but this time of year I really miss everything. Hope to move up for the summers in a few years. Any 1965 grads of TCHS who know of plans for a reunion in 2005? naplesybnp@aol.com

Michael Creamer, on Sunday, May 18, 2003 at 13:49:24, Granite Falls, WA: I still call Suttons Bay, home . I grew up on a small cherry farm in 70's north of Suttons Bay. I have traveled all over the world and tell people about the beauty of Traverse City and Leelanau County area. My Mom/Dad still live in the T.C. Area and my sister Kim is still on 63 acres of the original farm along with my youngest brother Noah. My Sunday morning constitutional wouldn't be complete without a visit to your paper's web site. I long for news about snowmobiling, the fate of Sugar Loaf and all those darn cherries I spent my summers shaking into cold tanks of water 12 hours/night , 7 days/week, but loved it any way. I live with my three children in Washington State, just north of Seattle. I long to move back if one could make a living there. To everyone still back there, keep it pristine and we'll continue to visit. I think the Airport should still be the Cherry Capital Airport, but I'm nostalgic. Michael Creamer

David Wasser, on Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at 10:14:45, Allentown, PA: I want to thank you for providing an excellent, easy-to-access news archive. It is a wonderful public service. You should be proud of yourselves!

Roy Gallivan, on monday, May 12, 2003 at 22:32:26, West Bountiful, Utah: just stopped to say hello. I am the class of 59 from St. Francis. Living here in Mormanville. Don't get back to TC often anymore. Do read the paper on the web. I am at gus19735614@aol.Com. Have a nice day everyone. Roy

Erin, on Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at 19:34:18, Travis, California: I am recently stationed out in California at an AF base but TC will always be my home. I just wanted to say I enjoy being able to read the Record Eagle online to keep up to date on what is happening back home. I miss you TC!!!

Alison Godin, on Thursday, May 1, 2003 at 10:36:25,city: Delray Beach, Fl: Hello to everyone in TC. I just moved about 6months ago. I would like to say that no matter where you go in life you always seem to meet people from your hometown such as what happened to me last week. I have been working at a golf course and met a lady from Lansing who owns a shop in Northport. Overall TC is a wonderful place to live and have a family. As a young adult I needed to escape, explore to see what is acutually out there. I'm in Delray Beach, FL. Feel free to email boarderbabe7482aol.com.

Curt Kruger, on Thursday, April 24, 2003 at 11:11:43, University Place, Wa: Growing up in TC was great, the summers were warm and most of us teenagers would ride out to long lake for swimming,or go down to clinch park. There was alway's plenty to do.Most of my family still live in TC,and soon I may return for a visit,I miss the ole town.

Rich Maus, on Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at 14:50:46, Toledo, OH: This is my first time to write to the RE. I am from northern Ohio, but love the Traverse region. In response to Wendy's "change the airport name". I thought it to be quite cute. Changing the name will bring more business? How? TC is such a beautiful city and should not only be proud of it's heritage but keep the uniquness of what the region has to offer. I love the Cherry Capitol and I am not even a great fan of cherries. I could name about a dozen airports that have a name to them, but you don't have to know the name of the Airport to fly to the city. Orange County, CA is John Wayne Intl., Washington National is Ronald Reagan, Houston Intercontinental is George Bush Intercontinental, Dayton, Ohio is Cox Intl., Ft. Wayne is Baer Field, St. Louis is Lambert Field, and I could go on. I hope that the residents of the TC area will continue to embrace their rich cultural and geographical heritage. I hope Michigan doesn't stop being the Great Lakes State. Thanks! for a chance to speak.

Terrill E. Wescom, on Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at 21:23:58, MACHESNEY PK., IL: I would like to thank 1st.lt.Jason King for nice things he said about my soninlaw, Mike,he made us very proud.Kelly Tomblin, said she is glad he is recovering fast, and she`d like him to return to be Mike front pilot again.Because she knows he will take care Mike. GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS & USA

Butch Rudesill, on Friday, April 4, 2003 at 20:33:52, Sacramento, CA: This is great! I miss Michigan. Some of my class-mates live in TC. A note to Fred Ballard of Kalkaska who said Michigan has too may gays and anti-war morons? You should live out here on the left coast. (Look what they re-elected!) Butch Rudesill glen101@cwo.com

Sandra Maginity, on Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at 12:53:13, Benzonia, Mi: Thank you for reporting the news and for asking for our opinions, especially on Iraq.

Jan Allender, on Saturday, March 29, 2003 at 21:41:39, Vacaville, California: I lived in Traverse City for over 40 years and moved about a year ago to California. What a difference!! I miss the changing of the seasons and the fall colors the most. I miss least the snow and the cold weather. Not having long life friends around is a hard adjustment. Or going to the store and being recoginized and talking with someone you know. No MEIJERS out in CA and we sure do miss that store. I go daily to the Record Eagle web site to keep in contact with my hometown. Thank goodness for that.

Marge Storrs Lanum, on Saturday, March 29, 2003 at 13:10:16, Palm Bay, Fla: It is great to be able to read your hometown paper living in Fla. You have alot of good news. Hope to be in Traverse City this summer for my 50th Class reunion Central High School. The Cherry Festival too. We have a super niece & husband living in TC. aardvark31@aol.com

Joshua wilson, on Thursday, March 27, 2003 at 00:27:05, va beach, va: I'm a local boy from kewadin, but I joined the army few years back. have not been back in awhile. Right now, I'm over here in support of Iraqi Freedom. I tell the guys all the time how great it is back home. It is a great place, one of the nices I've seen. I have been all over the world. Just to let you know miss yall and I'll be coming home soon.

Julie Lane Leep, on Friday, March 21, 2003 at 13:46:21, Bozeman, Montana: In response to "Wendy", who described Traverse City as "in the middle of nowhere". My initial response was a good chuckle. Hardly, is probably a gross understatement. First, you wondered where the Cherry Capital is? I am going to guess your family isn't from the area. The Grand Traverse area was once the Cherry Capital of the world in crop production. You also mentioned the airport name could help boost business in Traverse City. Now possibly I am way out of touch, but which particular area of business, of the already overexpanded franchise establishments are you speaking of? For gosh sakes, we already have WCCW and a local Ace! Last Wendy, curiosity, do you by chance own a Crispy Cream donut franchise...I don't think Traverse City has one yet. If only that darn airport had a more attractive name! .......all in the name of fun!

1manarmy, on Sunday, March 16, 2003 at 10:00:21, traversecity, mi: to those who protested against the war efforts in the middle east yesterday, also protested against our country, our presedant, our freedom, and most upsetting our troops who are over there right now ready to lay down and die so that we may be spaired a devistaiting nucaluar attack by an evil tyrant! you people discust me! this group of protesters was made up of mostly new school wanna be hippies who want nothing more than to be a part of an anti government movment like the one that was seen in the 1960's. they see this as an oppertunity to become "real hippies" ha what a joke! the ones I talked with had done little home work on the cause they stood for. they dont understand the ergancy of the situation, they dont believe we are in any danger! there idiots! there fools. this is a kill or be killed situation like it or not! I would love to see a peacefull resalution as would president bush but saddam refuses to co-operate! for those who dont know I am the one man that stood alone down town yesterday with my own sign supporting our country and president, and I also alone reseaved more honks of support than the 50 or so that spit on the us with signs protesting against our troops.

fred oakes, on Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at 18:50:46, san antonio, texas: if you love to fish, hunt, hike, camp or just wear clothes outside.........dont move to texas. i miss T.C. alot.......i'll be back when im 65. see you in 22yrs

Gary and Millie Ferris, on Friday, March 7, 2003 at 22:46:06, Summerfield, Fla: Millie and I went to school in TC, graduating in 1949 and 1948. We spent some time in the Air Force and Post Office, and although we have lived in Florida for the past 25 years, we still call Traverse City home. It's always a real thrill when we can get back up there to visit. Nothing like the old home town. Our e-mail address is ---- milgar@atlantic.net. We appreciate viewing the Record Eagle web page from time to time to keep informed. Thanks.

Andrew Geffert () on Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at 16:43:22, Boyne City, MI,: Wetland Ordinance: The TC Record-Eagle has done a great job of stating Michigan’s wetland laws accurately, far better than other area papers. But when you state that wetlands over 5-acres are regulated in counties over 100,000 population, please also mention that Grand Traverse County is under 100,000 population. Therefore the size of the wetland is irrelevant in Traverse City.

Larry Wolfe (mach_point87@chartermi.net) on Monday, March 3, 2003 at 12:08:15, Interlochen, MI: Another writer suggested that "change is needed in this town and a new name for the airport...would boost business here." I'm sorry, but the idea that changing the name of the airport would boost business is just plain silly. I travel all over the country, and when I mention I'm from Traverse City, I often have people say, "That's the Cherry Capital, isn't it? Don't they have some sort of festival up there in the summer? reputation as the Cherry Capital doesn't hurt business a bit. The writer also suggested that "people do not recognize the name Cherry Capital Airport." I can assure you anyone who wants to fly to Traverse City will be able to do so, even if they don't know the airport's name. People even fly to Bombay without realizing that it is now called Mumbai and that it is served by the Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport. This city is changing. But as we remodel, rebuild, and renovate, we must not forget that it's the city's old-fashioned, up-north atmosphere that attracts a lot of folks. If we were to someday be served by the Northwest Michigan Inter-galactic Airport, somehow it just wouldn?t be the same.

kraig goff, on Friday, February 28, 2003 at 00:58:19, Seattle , wa: greetings, it is very nice to look at the RE home page a couple to three times a week here in Seattle. I do not miss your winters but enjoyed visiting TC last summer. To those war protesters in TC, do you not recall what Saddam did blowing up oil wells at the end of the Gulf War and that one drop of nerve agent of which he has 400,000 tons of could do to the world. Wake up and smell the coffee, all the way from Brazil. You folks in TC have it too easy to even realize what Saddam has done to his people and to the world. Thanks for listening...

Terry Liddy, on Thursday, February 27, 2003 at 08:45:34, Ann Arbor, MI: I have had a second home in Leland for 10 years. Your paper has been an important source for news when I am away. I log on to you web site daily. The paper looks great, but what I am most impressed with in the reporting of the Tobias murder. I thought it was very well written and insightful. Terry

mark norton, on Sunday, February 23, 2003 at 16:50:41, greenville, michigan: hi i have a brother named myrl who lives in traverse city, he got evicted from his mobile home jan 4 03. he has a temporary home, but says he might be homeless this spring. so far all i could find was goodwill homeless shelter on division in traverse city.is there possibly one on Munson st in traverse city? thanks for any info you can give me. is there any other homeless shelters in traverse city mi? how do i search for them on the internet? thanks again Mark jsnort@chartermi.net

Larry, on Sunday, February 23, 2003 at 14:03:41, Traverse City, Michigan: Hi there. I like the Virtual Postcards and the webcams from around Northern Michigan. If anyone wants to write me they can at travellr48@aol.com I would love to hear from people that get the eagle online.

Dean Simmer, on Saturday, February 22, 2003 at 09:50:18, Hillsdale, MI: As a student at college down state, I often use the website to stay up to date on many local topics, but mostly the sports world. I would suggest that you put the standing of local leagues on your website (Big North, Northwest, Ski Valley, etc.) because it is hard to keep track of all of that. Otherwise, it's great!

richard hamel, on Friday, February 21, 2003 at 08:21:24, lake ann, mi: the record-eagle is a great paper

Edward Walker, on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at 15:00:56, Key West, Fla: Just a voice from the past, My family was stationed and lived at the U.S.C.G. base in T.C.in the med 50,s We stayed for alomst 4 yr,s. I remember elementary and some Jr.high school. I was a paper carrier for the Record Eagle at the airport and the C.G. station. I have great memories of T.C. Summers were alive with adventure,Cherrie picking, boating on the bay, a day at the park, trips to Tourch lake. At the end of school our bus drivers would take our bus and all of the kid,s to Sleeping Bear sand Dunes for a picnic. This was a great time in my childhood that I will remember forever. Thank you Traverse City. I have been living in Key West for the past 31 yr.s I have retired from teaching, and continue to enjoy the water and weather.I will continue to visit the Eagle I have included my E- mail Add. in the chance that an old friend may see this note. (Mike Bradford) I hope you and yours are well. Walkeree@bellsouth.net

Andy Deck, on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at 09:54:23, New York City, NY: I've spent summers in Interlochen all my life, so I've read the Record-Eagle a lot. I am writing because I looked at the front pages on the days following the world wide peace marches, and it seems there was not much favorable coverage in the Record Eagle. I am aware that cable news and the White House have created an air of inevitability to a war in Iraq. But it seems to me that when millions of people in countries around the world -- including hundreds of thousands of people in New York City -- are demanding peace, that is headline news. Personally, I have done a lot of reading, thinking, and research on the topic; and I am more convinced than ever that a war in Iraq is a bad idea.

Chad Thomas, on Monday, February 17, 2003 at 18:35:54, San Diego, California: Hello from sunny San Diego. I like the new layout of the newspaper. Its about time it changed. A lot of people will not like it though. I have noticed that the majority of folks in the Traverse City area hate change. Whether its the airport changing its name, a bridge being built for smoother traffic flow, or the newspaper. Keep up the great work.

James Cousins, on Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at 07:20:42, Traverse City: MI, Moving to TC from Baltimore, Maryland five years ago was the best thing I have done for myself in years. Although TC is growing it still has a small town atmosphere, what I love most is the ability to drive without being bogged down in heavy traffic as is the case in the Baltimore, DC area. If you think traffic is heavy here go to Baltimore and try to move around.I do not think changing the name of the airport from Cherry capital to GT regional is a good idea, I think "cherry Capital" and "cherry festival" suit TC very well. Thanks to the editor of R-E for being honest in his explanation of the long lake drowning incident, that would not happen with the "baltimore sun" newspaper. jacous1@aol.com

ANDREW J WALTERS, on Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at 01:24:28, Brussels, Belgium, MI: I lived in Traverse City for all my adult life until I joined the Marine Corps in 1998. I have read the Record Eagle and continue to read the Record Eagle thanks to my family. To all whom shall read this and graduated from Glen Lake I wish you the best in all that you do.

Sherryl LaFontaine, on Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at 18:45:15, atlanta, michigan: orignally from rochester but used to visit traverse city all the time we were there news years eve 2002 and my son was named for TC, which he'll have a happy 18th on march 1st.now that were closer we'll visit more often

Helen C., on Monday, February 10, 2003 at 01:31:49, Vacaville, CA: The new on-line format for your "front page" is a wonderful improvement! My husband is originally from California and I'm a Traverse City native. This is my first winter away from "home" and internet access to the Record-Eagle has definitely helped shorten the distance. Thank you for being there.

Patricia Scharf, on Thursday, February 6, 2003 at 14:21:21, Orange Park, FL: Imagine my surprise when I read something from Ron Page in Orange Park talking about Traverse City. I'm down in Orange Park getting away from Traverse City right now. Just temp. though. Guess you could say I'm getting away from the cold and snow and visiting my sister's family. Miss everyone back home though. I'll be back for the green grass and flowers. bingoleta@hotmail.com

julie, on Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at 22:38:58, bozeman, mt: A THOUGHT FOR THE T.C. LOCALS; particularly the old rooted ones from the bigger farming families around the area; Do you remember the many summer days either working in the cherry orchards, or driving by mile after mile of trees filled with cherries? There is HISTORY established behind the name "Cherry Capital Airport". What'dar you thinking in changing the name! Is there in fact, someone over 15 years old behind this idea? At one time, Traverse City Michigan was the Cherry Capital of the world. Let me guess, was one of the top name bids something like: "Home Depot, Tom's Food Store Airport". Apparently it worked for the Cherry Festival parades, why stop there!

Coleen, on Monday, February 3, 2003 at 02:56:42, Mancelona, Michigan: How could anyone not be proud of Traverse City?? Cherry Captial Airport signifies the city. Once you visit Traverse City you will definitely return either by plane, bus, car, or whatever... Many small towns from miles away, like Mancelona, even consider Traverse City to be their second home. It may not be the most well-known city on the map, but it is way up there on most people's opinions once they experience Cherry Country.

Ronald W. Page, on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 at 16:39:41, Orange Park, FL: As a former South Bend resident now living in Florida, I traveled to Traverse City on business and for pleasure for almost 40 years. I have owned property near Torch Lake for over 30 years. In my opinion, after having been in 47 of the 50 states, Traverse City and area are among the most beautiful in the U.S. Having the ability to live there should not be taken for granted.

wendy, on Monday, January 27, 2003 at 19:55:08, traverse city, mi: Change is needed in this town and a new name for the airport would be the best thing for traverse city it would boost business here. Traverse City is in the middle of nowhere and most people do not recognize the name cherry capital airport. I have one thing to say where is cherry capital? Please change the name.

Denny Chapman, on Monday, January 27, 2003 at 19:14:32, Provo, UT: I certainly miss seeing Lake Michigan every day. I check in with the camcorder at the Holiday Inn to see what's up on the Bay. There is an 11,750' mountain out my front window so that somewhat makes of for the blue of Lake Michigan.

You do need a bit more snow though.

My son was born in Munson Medical center.I was station at the CG AIR STATION.we loved the area and wanted to retire there.things just didn't work out that way,but really enjoyed the area.we want to come back to TC for a visit and see how much it has grown. Scott Reichert, on Monday, January 6, 2003 at 07:59:50, NAF ATSUGI JAPAN, mi: It's good to read the local news once and a while. While stationed in Japan and at sea on board the USS Kitty Hawk it is always great to hear about Traverse City. Even though we tend to think of TC as small we still make news even in Tokyo, tell Judge Gilbert his 15 minutes of fame is not just local. It made the International Herald over here, and had me come back to read the full scoop from the Record Eagle. My best wishes and a Happy New Year to all in Traverse City, I wish I could spend the winter with you but instead I am going to have a hot winter and spring in the Arabian Gulf.

Gary Hartwig, on Wednesday, January 1, 2003 at 05:31:24, Sydney, Australia: I am originally from Michigan. I have not lived in TC, but know the town well. My brother Don lives there. Even though I have lived most of the past thirty years in Sydney, Australia, I like to be kept informed on life in Michigan; espically Traverse City, Cheboygan, Cadillac, Lake City, Grand Haven, and Big Rapids. The Record Eagle is a great way to keep in touch.

Steve Doughten, on Monday, December 30, 2002 at 09:54:25, Alden, MI: The site keeps me updated on area news. I work on the North Slope of Alaska for weeks at a time and our newspaper is usually late by a day.

Todd Ockert on Friday, December 27, 2002 at 15:49:36, US Navy Deployed, CA: As a former resident who left a couple of years after graduating in 1982, I miss the TC area. I hope to return in the summer of 2003 if the Navy doesn't have me deployed again. I am currently deployed on the USS Abraham Lincoln. We have just finished up a tour in the Persian Gulf. The crew is enjoying some much deserved liberty in Perth Australia. We hope to return to our home stations by the middle of Jan. If there are any old friends in TC that read this, and would like to correspond, please email me at todd.ockert@navy.mil Take Care TC. Todd Ockert

Stanley M. Umlor, on Friday, December 27, 2002 at 13:51:28, Palm Harbor, Fl: I was born in Traverse City. My Dad, George W. Umlor was also born there and was a lifer in the Army and we moved all oer the world. He finally settled in Huntsville Ala, but TC was always home to him. I am doing Family tree research on the Umlor and Stoops surname. The Umlor Family was pretty tightly tied to the Lautners. Any help on those names is appreciated. Its fairly cool here in Palm Harbor right now by our standards. (59) A little cool for Golf and the Beach. You guys can rag on me when it's 75 there this summer and we are fighting 95 degrees with 100% hummidity and hurricanes. Keep warm and Happy Holidays smu.umlor@verizon.net

K. SHELLEY, on Friday, December 20, 2002 at 14:26:22, Lakeland, Florida: I left TC in 1972 but still check the internet Record Eagle to keep up with the news. I miss the area and some day would like to visit again.

Rob Barnard, on Sunday, December 8, 2002 at 00:20:17, Camarillo, CA: Hi, Thank you for putting this website together. I'm originally from the TC area, but currently live in Camarillo CA. According to the National Geographic, this area has the best year around weather in the world. Mild ocean breezes and and warm Southern California sun. But I'd trade my place here to be home again, in Kalkaska or TC county. I miss it there. Happy Holidays everyone.

Ed, on Thursday, December 5, 2002 at 19:37:04, Auburn, MI: On Nov. 29 through Dec. 1 there was a Pee Wee A and AA tournament at Centre Ice. Did you have any coverage on the outcome. If so, what day. Thanks. Ed

My father, Swede Johnson, drowned on the 3rd of August, 1955, our mother, Gladys E Johnson (Reitzel) passed away on 3/3/01. I graduated in the 33rd Mich State Police School. Our house number is 3003 Spanish Moss Lane, Kissimmee, FL 34746. Thanks. and Happy Holidays to Ya'all. Fay and Bernie Johnson.

Jim Kreft, on Saturday, November 30, 2002 at 20:06:47, Swarthmore, PA: I go to college out here, and its a big transition from good ole' TC. I have the Record Eagle website as my homepage, and though it's not the same as reading the real thing with my cereal in the morning, it is the best way to keep up with local issues. Thanks for having such a great website!

Bruce Avery, on Thursday, November 28, 2002 at 10:40:05, Benicia, California: Thank you for the Record Eagle site. I grew up in Charlevoix, and am living in California near my wifes home town. Julie White, on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at 11:26:00, traverse City, mi, Hello. Have lived here in this city for just over 16 months now. We traveled back and forth about 15 times in the two previous years leading up to a move. Would never have thought it possible to live in such an enchanting place. Traverse City has it all. From the people that live here year round to the thousands that flock here to get a piece of what we are lucky enough to devour every day of our lives. There is just so much to do and see. As I sit here looking out my window with my cat perched on the window sill also enjoying the scenery, there is about 3 inches of newly fallen snow on the ground. Just breathtaking. It will be a great Thanksgiving this year. Enjoy! We have a ton to be thankful for up in this wonderland. Julie White

Amber Grose, on Sunday, November 24, 2002 at 14:57:25, Traverse City, MI: Hello all, i have lived in Traverse City all my life, yet both of my sisters, whom i love very much, are in Washington and Oregon, so in a few years after i am done with college, i will move to be closer to them. i do not want to do that, but i do. i love Traverse City with all my heart, because it is familiar and it is beautiful. It may be very conservative (which is why many teens i know move out of Traverse City) but i love it and really wish i did not have to go. I am still a few years away from moving, but it is on my mind constantly. But i love my sisters very much and want to be close to them, so when the time comes, i will say goodbye to this beautiful City.

Richard Lenart, on Thursday, August 29, 2002 at 19:35:55, Chicago, Illinois: Hello My wife and I are looking to buy a little place on the lake or channel (lot or home). Within 2 hours from Chicago, we would love to find that home that we can start going to and get to know the people in the area and retire in 10 years. I love fishing and she loves to sit by the water. We love the area around the Lakes and we're wondering if you would know of anyone selling by owner or by real estate. Our range isn't much the most we can go up to is about 70k. We're looking for a house (cottage) that is fixable on the lake and with flat land. We would like about 30' of lake frontage minimum. As far as size of the house well at least 1 bedroom. The lake really don't madder. I love fishing and she loves the sun and the sound of water. The only boat we would be on is a pontoon it is great for fishing and sun bathing. I hope you can help us. If so, could you please contact us at 1-773-586-1685 or notify us by e-mail at Lenbella@aol.com

John L. Paval, on Thursday, August 29, 2002 at 01:05:29, Stockton, Ca.: It's been a long 20 plus years since I left the Winter Water Wonderland, but I was back last 4th of July for a family get together and vowed there and then that I will return for good. This former Detroit kid will make Traverse City area his home in the next 1-2 years. I seek a pleasant penisula, and I only have to look to my former home - to Michigan.

Laura and Chic, on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at 21:17:12, Traverse City, MI: We seldom contemplate the fact of our living in T.C. As we read through the various entries, we realize that there are many other people who love, miss, or can not wait to return to Traverse City. We appreciate how very fortunate we are to be able to spend every day here!
