Obituaries


      HAZEL MAY MCCARRY, 90, of Traverse City, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at Tendercare Traverse City nursing home.
      Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah; services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. A full obituary will appear in the Tuesday Record-Eagle.
     
      RAYNOR CARL OLSTROM, 74, of East Jordan, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
      The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday at Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
     
      JUEIL M. WINDBIGLER, 87, of Traverse City, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      A full obituary will appear in the Tuesday Record-Eagle. Hibbard Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
     
      Florine Alberts
      Died December 4, 1999
      KEWADIN - Florine Alberts, 67, died Saturday at her home in Kewadin.
      Born Sept. 22, 1932, in Elk Rapids, she was the daughter of Percy and Louise (Williams) Anderson. She married Francis "Proctor" Shananaquet who later preceded her in death. Florine later married Wilmer Alberts Sr. who also preceded her in death.
      A resident of the Elk Rapids area her entire life, Florine worked at NISH-NAH-BEE Industries in Traverse City as a supervisor/quality control. She was a member of the Grand Traverse Band of Chippewa and Ottawa Indians and of the Kewadin Indian Mission Church. Florine enjoyed attending church, reading the Bible and music. She was a very devoted Christian. Florine loved the Lord with all her heart and, having seen His face, her sweet spirit will soar for eternity.
      Survivors include four daughters, Theresa Shananaquet of Kewadin, Mary (Earl) Pelcher of Mount Pleasant, Patricia (Walter "Bob") Poertner of Traverse City, and Melissa Alberts of Kewadin; three sons, Michael (Shirley) Shananaquet of Traverse City, Martin (Karen) Shananaquet of Kewadin, and Wilmer Alberts Jr. of Kewadin; six brothers, Gerald Anderson of Peshawbetown, Percy "Chief" Anderson Jr. of Elk Rapids, Albert Anderson of Kewadin, Robert Anderson of Elk Rapids, Russell Anderson of Elk Rapids, and Steve (Audry) Anderson of Lansing; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
      Florine was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and two brothers, David and Edward Anderson.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today and Tuesday at Kewadin Indian Mission Church; a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. each evening at the church.
      Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Elk Rapids United Methodist Church; the Rev. Tom John and the Rev. Delford Whitecrow will officiate.
      Burial will take place in Kewadin Indian Mission Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to Kewadin Indian Mission Church.
      Arrangements are by the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.

      Josphine Marie Everett
      Died December 3, 1999
      TRAVERSE CITY - Josephine Marie Everett, 74, died Friday at her home in Traverse City.
      Born March 20, 1925, in Saginaw, she was the daughter of Joseph and Hazel (Thornton) Lokinski. In 1945, in Memphis, Tenn., she married Mason H. Everett.
      Josephine served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. A homemaker, in 1970 she moved from Milford to Traverse City. She was a former receptionist at the Traverse City Record-Eagle. She enjoyed bingo and working in her yard.
      Survivors include two daughters, Jamie Reid of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and Janice Voice of Traverse City; two sons, Richard (Kathy) Everett of Waukesha, Wis., and David Everett of Worthington, Ohio; and three sisters, Florence Kapplinger of Saginaw, Dorothy Schramke of Livonia, and Marie (Jim) Ruyle of Farmington Hills.
      Josephine was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
      Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth; the Rev. Celia M. Hastings will officiate.
      Burial will be in Ellsworth Cemetery.
      The Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
     
      Alice Marguerite Hoxie
      Died December 4, 1999
      CEDAR - Alice Marguerite Hoxie, 95, of Cedar, died Saturday at Bortz Health Care in Traverse City.
      A lifelong resident of the Traverse City area, she had lived at the Hoxie Road family farm for the past 75 years. A 1920 graduate from Traverse City High School, she attended County Normal and taught at the Rennie school for a year. Alice was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Traverse City, the Solon Extension Club and the Pioneer Farm Bureau. She enjoyed crocheting, flowers, and family, and was an excellent cook and baker.
      Born Dec. 14, 1903, in Long Lake Township, she was the daughter of Henry and Emma (Weiselberg) Witkop. On Aug. 27, 1924, at the family home in Long Lake Township, she married Warren Hoxie. He died March 11, 1988.
      Surviving are two sons, Jack (Doris) Hoxie of Traverse City and Bill (Clarice) Hoxie of Cedar; a daughter, Wanda (Norman) Crampton of Traverse City; three sisters, Grace Slocum, Lucille Boone, and Ruth Goodman - all of Traverse City; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
      Alice was also preceded in death by a sister, Wilhelmina Youker.
      Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
      Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home; the Rev. William Haggard will officiate.
      Burial will take place in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens in Traverse City.
      Memorials may be directed to Leelanau County Meals on Wheels or Asbury United Methodist Church.

      Charles Raymond St. Clair Jr.
      Died December 3, 1999
      GLEN ARBOR - Charles Raymond St. Clair Jr., 77, of Glen Arbor, died Friday in Earlysville.
      He was born Aug. 30, 1922, in Oak Park, Ill., the son of Charles R. and Erla Smith St. Clair. His parents preceded him in death.
      Charles was retired from Michigan State University where he served as chairman of the mechanical engineering department and received a mechanical engineering teaching award. He had a Ph.D. from Purdue University and served with the Army Ordinance Research Division. Charles was a member of the U.S. Handball Assoc., Tau Beta Pi, Triangle Fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Glen Arbor.
      Survivors include his wife, Jeanette E. St. Clair of Glen Arbor; three children, Charles R. St. Clair III of Davidson, N.C., Scott A. St. Clair and his wife, Judy, of Boulder, Colo., and Deborah St. Clair Short, and her husband, Tim, of Earlysville; five grandchildren; and dear friends, John and Anne Polomsky, James Beck, Tom Moore, Dr. Richard Schilling, Rolland and Mary Lou Gifford, Merle Potter, and Mahlon Smith.
      The memorial service will be private.
      Arrangements are by Hill & Wood Funeral Service and Cremation Memorial Center, Inc. of Charlottesville, Va.
     
      Victoria Lenecz Tifft
      Died December 4, 1999
      WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Victoria Lenecz Tifft, 83, of Winston-Salem, was born into eternal life Saturday after a long illness. She was a former resident of Dearborn Heights, Mich.
      Survivors include her beloved husband of 58 years, Carroll Tifft; two daughters, Julie Pais of Lexington, N.C., and Joyce Sheridan of Traverse City, Mich.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
      A memorial Mass in celebration of her life was held in Clemmons.
      Memorials may be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem, 100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or Holy Family Catholic Church, PO Box 130, Clemmons, NC 27012.
      Cremations Services, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.
