Obituaries
DOROTHY JEAN 'DEE DEE' DICKERT, 77, of Midland, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, in Midland. She was born Oct. 20, 1922, Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Services have been held. A full obituary will appear in the Wednesday Record-Eagle. The Wilson Miller Funeral Home if Midland is in charge of arrangements.
Dennis Joe Culver
Died December 4, 1999
HOWELL - Dennis Joe Culver, 56, of Howell, died Saturday in Milton Township as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born Jan. 18, 1943, in Lansing, the son of Wayne J. and Gladys (Cooke) Culver.
Dennis was a building mechanic for the Lansing Board of Water and Light Public Utilities. He spent a great deal of time at his future retirement home at Torch River.
Surviving are his wife, Melissa R. (Leonard); two children, Chad (Michelle) Culver of Traverse City and Jamie (Scott) Tatman of Lowell; four brothers, Jim (Suzanne) Culver of Vero Beach, Fla., Tom Culver of Lansing, Bud (Wava) Culver of Lansing, and Ted (Rosalyn) Culver of Ann Arbor; three grandchildren, Courtney Ann Culver, Alexandra Lyn Culver, and Emily Jane Tatman; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and died with his brother Timothy D. Culver.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gorsline-Runciman Co., East Chapel in East Lansing.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grass River Natural Area, PO Box 231, Bellaire, MI 49615.
Local arrangements are by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
Timothy Douglas Culver
Died December 4, 1999
RAPID CITY - Timothy Douglas Culver, 60, of Rapid City, died Saturday in Milton Township as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born Sept. 5, 1939, in Lansing, the son of Wayne J. and Gladys (Cooke) Culver.
Timothy was currently the administrator for the Concord Academy in Mancelona. He resided at Torch River where he summered for nine years previously. He moved from Holt earlier this year.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret M. (Myers); two children, Barbara Jane (Robert) Nulf of Climax and Sandra Kaye Culver of Chicago; four brothers, Jim (Suzanne) Culver of Vero Beach, Fla., Tom Culver of Lansing, Bud (Wava) Culver of Lansing, and Ted (Rosalyn) Culver of Ann Arbor; two grandchildren, Sydney Ray Nulf and Henry Robert Nulf; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and died with his brother Dennis Joe Culver.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gorsline-Runciman Co., East Chapel in East Lansing.

Audrey Rose DeYoung
Died December 6, 1999
TRAVERSE CITY - Audrey Rose DeYoung, 84, of Traverse City, died peacefully at home Monday morning.
Born Feb. 26, 1915, in Muskegon; she was the daughter of George and Katherine (Witt) Bull.
Audrey lived in Muskegon until her marriage to Lyle Sheldon DeYoung on Nov. 24, 1938. This year they celebrated 61 years of marriage.
She and Lyle moved to Traverse City to run Hilt's Wallpaper and Paint Store which later became DeYoungs Wallpaper and Paint Store in 1951. She did the bookkeeping for the store from 1938 to 1974.
Audrey was a life member of the Daisy Chain, a Catholic Daughter and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. A member of Munson Medical Auxiliary, she managed the hospital gift shop for 12 years.
She loved bridge, card games and knitting for her grandchildren. Audrey was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and the best "big grandma" any child could ask for.
Survivors include her husband, Lyle S. of Traverse City; two brothers, George (Janet) Bull of Muskegon and James (Mary) Bull of Hilton Head, S.C.; a sister, Eloisie (Albert) Engel of Ada; her daughter-in-law, Patricia DeYoung of Traverse City; four grandchildren, Douglas (Maureen) DeYoung, Dawn (Michale) Gildersleve of Traverse City, Daryl DeYoung of Beaver Creek, Colo., and Dana DeYoung of West Hartford, Conn.; four great-grandchildren, Katherine Rose and Molly France DeYoung, and Tyler Michael and Megan Elizabeth Gildersleeve - all of Traverse City; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Audrey was preceded in death by her only son, Lyle William, in 1992, a brother, Robert Bull, in 1976, and a sister, Katherine Gallagher in 1982.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where friends may call one hour before the service for visitation. The Rev. James Hayden will officiate.
Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.

Eugene 'Gene' Jacob Ghering
Died November 30, 1999
SERPENT RIVER, Ontario - Gene Ghering, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, age 74, previous resident of Traverse City, Mich., passed away in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Tuesday.
He was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Traverse City to Roy and Hattie Ghering. He was joined in marriage to Mary Etta Lardie on June 1, 1946.
Gene and Mary made their home as fruit growers on the Old Mission Peninsula until 1972 at which time they sold their farm and bought Kegos Camp, a hunting and fishing resort on Chub Lake near Thessalon, Ontario, which they operated until they retired in 1991.
Upon retirement, Gene and Mary settled in Serpent River and spent their winters in their home in Clearwater, Fla.
Gene was a veteran of World War II. He worked at the U.S. Postal Service for approximately 18 years. He was an active member of the Lion's Club in Thessalon for 12 years. Gene was an avid hunter and an excellent hunting guide; he loved the outdoors. He also loved to travel and captured beautiful scenery with his camera.
Gene is survived by his wife Mary Etta; brother LeRoy Ghering of Traverse City; his five children; Jeanette (Jon) Christy of Lake Arrowhead, Calif., Patricia (Dan) Bellows of Kingsley, Mich., Mike (Mary) Ghering of Traverse City, Dorene (Rodger) Hubley of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and Diane (Pete) Petersen of Traverse City; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place.
There will be a private memorial service held at daughter Diane Petersen's home Thursday morning.
Friends and family may pay their respects from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at daughter Pat Bellow's home in Kingsley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association or to the Eugene Ghering Memorial Fund.
Hazel May McCarry
Died December 4, 1999
TRAVERSE CITY - Hazel May McCarry, 90, died Saturday at Tendercare Traverse City.
Born Feb. 2, 1909, in Lake Ann, she was the daughter of Fredrick and Grace (Martin) Wilson. On April 19, 1928, in Lake Ann, she married John Steven McCarry.
A resident of Traverse City, she lived in Benzie County for most of her life except for a short period of time that she spent in the Upper Peninsula. Hazel was a retired nurses aide. She enjoy crocheting and playing the piano. She was a member of First Christian Church and a former member of First Baptist Church of Frankfort.
Survivors include five daughters, Sylvia (Homer) Hoagland of Muskegon, Lula (Richard) Snyder of Kingsley, Rose (Jim) Harrand of Grawn, Helen (Chuck) Norton of Molena, Ga., and Gloria (Lavern) Lentz of Copemish; four sons, John (Millie) McCarry of Houston, Mo., Francis (Lorene) McCarry of Sun, La., Steven (Elaine) McCarry of Houston, Mo., and Norman (Evelyn) McCarry of Bear Lake; a brother, Raymond (Irene) Wilson of Norman, Okla.; 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Craig McCarry; brother, Francis Wilson; and great-granddaughter, Emily Hoagland.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at Bennett-Bartz Funeral Home in Beulah.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home; the Rev. Larry J. Ross will officiate.
Burial will be in Benzonia Township Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Hazel M. McCarry Memorial Fund.
Jueil M. Windbigler
Died December 5, 1999
TRAVERSE CITY - Jueil M. Windbigler, 87, died Sunday at Munson Medical Center.
Born May 10, 1912, in Gaylord, she was the daughter of Frank and Florence (Laney) Knapp.
A resident of Traverse City, she lived in the area for most of her adult life. Jueil was a member of the Salvation Army.
Survivors include her husband, Verlon, and a son, Charles Richard Windbigler - both of Traverse City, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Jueil was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Shirley, in 1964; two grandchildren, Charles Windbigler in 1987 and Katherine Click in 1994; two brothers, Carl and Leland Knapp; and two sisters, Hannah Tucker and Retha Milligan.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hibbard Funeral and Cremation Service.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home; the Rev. Keith Huffman will officiate.
Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery in Long Lake Township.
