Obituaries
GEORGE B. WHITEHEAD, 73, of Williamsburg, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 8, 1999, at his home.
Arrangements are pending at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
KENNETH DILLON YOUNG, 79, of Empire, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 8, 1999, at Birchwood Nursing Center in Traverse City.
No services are planned. A full obituary will appear in the Friday Record-Eagle. Arrangements are by the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
Audrey Rose DeYoung
Died December 6, 1999
TRAVERSE CITY - Audrey Rose DeYoung, 84, of Traverse City, died peacefully at home Monday morning.
Born Feb. 26, 1915, in Muskegon; she was the daughter of George and Katherine (Witt) Bull.
Audrey lived in Muskegon until her marriage to Lyle Sheldon DeYoung on Nov. 24, 1938. This year they celebrated 61 years of marriage.
She and Lyle moved to Traverse City to run Hilt's Wallpaper and Paint Store which later became DeYoungs Wallpaper and Paint Store in 1950. She did the bookkeeping for the store from 1938 to 1974.
Audrey was a life member of the Daisy Chain, a Catholic Daughter and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. A member of Munson Medical Auxiliary, she managed the hospital gift shop for 12 years.
She loved bridge, card games and knitting for her grandchildren. Audrey was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and the best "big grandma" any child could ask for.
Survivors include her husband, Lyle S. of Traverse City; two brothers, George (Janet) Bull of Muskegon and James (Mary) Bull of Hilton Head, S.C.; a sister, Eloisie (Albert) Engel of Ada; her daughter-in-law, Patricia DeYoung of Traverse City; four grandchildren, Douglas (Maureen) DeYoung, Dawn (Michael) Gildersleeve of Traverse City, Daryl DeYoung of Beaver Creek, Colo., and Dana DeYoung of West Hartford, Conn.; four great-grandchildren, Katherine Rose and Molly Frances DeYoung, and Tyler Michael and Megan Elizabeth Gildersleeve - all of Traverse City; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Audrey was preceded in death by her only son, Lyle William, in 1992, a brother, Robert Bull, in 1976, and a sister, Katherine Gallagher in 1982.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where friends may call one hour before the service for visitation. The Rev. James Hayden will officiate.
Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be directed to the Lyle W. DeYoung Memorial Scholarship Fund, Grand Traverse MSU Alumni Assoc., PO Box 1633, Traverse City, MI 49685, Munson Hospice, or Immaculate Conception Restoration Fund.
Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
