Obituaries
MARGARET BOLDT, 94, of Traverse City, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999, at her home.
Arrangements are pending at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
EILEEN JANEY HUTCHINSON, 88, of Traverse City, died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999.
Cremation has taken place. Burial will be in New York. Arrangements are by the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
PATRICIA 'PAT' WOLFF, 74, of Traverse City, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999, at her home.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with a time of sharing at 7 p.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City. A full obituary will appear in Tuesday's Record-Eagle.
Iva E. Hunt
Died December 11, 1999
BEAR LAKE - Iva E. Hunt, 81, of Bear Lake, entered into her eternal reward with Jesus, surrounded by her family, Saturday, at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility.
Iva was born June 11, 1918, in Blaine Township in Benzie County, the daughter of Ernest and Ethel (Shutler) Gilbert. On June 7, 1938, she married John H. Hunt who preceded her in death June 9, 1990.
She graduated from Ferris Institute and taught elementary education in Almira Township in Benzie County.
Iva and John resided on the family farm at Herring Lake for many years where she was a loving mother and homemaker who enjoyed cooling, baking and spending time with her family. In 1966 the family moved to Bear Lake to own and operate a dairy farm. Iva worked as a cook and baker at the Bear Lake schools for many years, retiring about 1977. She was a charter member of the Herring Lake Baptist Church where she served in a variety of ministries over the years.
Surviving are two sons, Rodney (Betty) Hunt of Herring Lake and Charles (Debra) Hunt of Traverse City; and nine grandchildren, Pam Hyde of Minneapolis, Minn., Kirk (Lisa) Hunt of Eaton Rapids, Eric (Karie) Hunt of Ann Arbor, Brian (Michelle) Hunt of Spring Lake, Rebecca Waller of Palm Harbor, Fla., Jonathon and Courtney Hunt of Maine, and Hillary and Marta Hunt of Traverse City. Survivors also include seven great-grandchildren, Steffen Hunt; Raechel, Mellissa and Kenneth Hyde; Lindsay and Kirsten Hunt; and Randy Waller. Other survivors include a sister, Pearle (Ted) Schlueter of Cedar; brothers, Stephen Gilbert of Tucson, Ariz., and Beuford (Marion) Gilbert of Cook, Neb.; also her best friend, Leona Bronson of Bear Lake.
Iva was also preceded in death by a son, Jon Hunt, in 1997, and brothers, Harry and Cleve Gilbert.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Edwards Funeral Home in Bear Lake.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Herring Lake Baptist Church.
Interment will be in Blaine Township Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Manistee County Medical Care Facility.

Lewis W. Sluyter
Died December 8, 1999
BENZIE COUNTY - Lewis W. Sluyter, 80, of Benzie County and Arizona, died Wednesday in Globe, Arizona.
He was born May 8, 1918, in Aloha, Mich., the son of John B. and Juanita (Tubbs) Sluyter.
Lewis, a self-employed builder and painter for many years, had owned Sluyter Sudden Service in Traverse City. A member of Herring Lake Baptist Church and Gideons International, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.
On December 5, 1941, in Elberta, Lewis married Olga M. Gunderson who preceded him in death.
Lewis is survived by his children, Leon (Pat) Sluyter of Beulah, Linda (Dave) Foddrill of Plainfield, Ind., Larry W. Sluyter of Traverse City, Lorene (Doug) Gleason of Benzonia, Lonny (Cheryl) Sluyter of Payson, Ariz., LuVon Smith of Frankfort, Lorron (Judy) Sluyter of San Diego, LaVaughn (Mona) Sluyter of Globe, Ariz., and Lonnette (Geoff) Miner of Benzonia; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Marye Lord of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Fran (Don) Herriman of Lake Ann, and Joanne Kline of Traverse City.
He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Joey Sluyter, and his sister, Dorothy Roberts.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home; the Rev. Kenneth Blair will officiate.
Interment will be in Blaine Township Cemetery.

Ellis Gerald Weaver
Died December 11, 1999
HONOR - Ellis Gerald Weaver, 78, of Honor, died Saturday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Born Aug. 31, 1921, in Honor, he was the son of George A. and Anna C. (Madsen) Weaver.
A veteran of World War II, Ellis served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Kenneth C. Evans Post No. 7544 in Beulah and of the Elks Lodge No. 323 in Traverse City.
Ellis was with the Homestead Township Fire Department from 1946 to 1982 and was the fire chief from l950 to 1982. Ellis was also one of the founding fathers of ambulance service in Benzie County.
Ellis and his brother, George, owned Weaver's IGA in Honor from 1946 to 1984. He served as president of the Honor Chamber of Commerce during the 1960s, was a past chairman of the church board at Honor Congregational Church and was very active in community service.
A wonderful husband and a great father, his greatest enjoyment was his grandchildren. He also enjoyed all types of sports, especially basketball.
On May 23, 1948, in Frankfort, Ellis married Edna J. Gabrielsen who survives him. Also surviving are two daughters, Carol Am (Rick) Lipp of Holt and Marilee (Wayne) Strom of Honor; his son, Robert (Polly) Weaver of Honor; seven grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and two nieces, Deborah (David) Wells of Warren and Dawn Weaver of Traverse City.
Ellis was preceded in death by two brothers, V.M. "Dutch" Weaver and George Weaver, and two nephews, Richard Weaver and George Weaver Jr.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home; the Rev. Thomas Maher will officiate.
Interment will be in Gilmore Township Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Homestead Township Fire Department. Envelopes are available at Bennett-Barz Funeral Home.
