Obituaries


      HARRIET MARIE BOLLMAN, 74, of Lovells, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at Mercy Hospital in Grayling. A homemaker, she was born June 20, 1925, in Chicago.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, in Grayling. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lovells Cemetery.
     
      HOWARD D. CODDINGTON, 94, of Traverse City, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at Tendercare of Traverse City.
      Arrangements will be announced by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      A memorial service for THAREL T. 'DUTCH' KANITZ, 91, who died Nov. 24, will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      RUBY R. LANNIN, 84, of Traverse City, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      A full obituary will appear in Tuesday's Record-Eagle. Arrangements are by the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      IMOGENE LEFFEL, 70, of Frederic, died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. A retired auto industry machinist, he was born Feb. 21, 1929, in Clearfork, W. Va.
      Services will be held in Roanoke, Va. Burial will be in Myers Family Cemetery in Moneta, Va. Local arrangements were by Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, in Grayling.
     
      WALTER EUGENE SMITH, 79, of Grayling, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at his home. A tool cutter and grinder for aircraft manufacturing, he was born April 29, 1920, in Dayton, Ohio.
      Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel in Grayling. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lane Heights Cemetery in Lufton.
     
      CLAIRE STONE, 79, of Traverse City, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999.
      Arrangements are pending at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      ROBERT LEE WARNER, 72, of Frankfort, died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital/Long Term Care in Frankfort.
      Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Frankfort Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes; funeral services will follow 3 p.m. Burial will be in Gilmore Township Cemetery.
     
      JANET WILLIAMSON, 94, of Elk Rapids, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at Tendercare of Traverse City.
      Arrangements will be announced by the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      RICHARD A. YANKEE, 65, of Manistee, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999.
      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manistee. Johnson Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
     
      Daniel J. Chippewa Jr.
      Died December 19, 1999
      PESHAWBESTOWN - Daniel J. Chippewa Jr., 71, of Peshawbestown, died Sunday at Leelanau Memorial Long Term Health Care in Northport.
      Born Aug. 8, 1928, in Suttons Bay Township, he was the son of Daniel Chippewa Sr. and Eliza (Raphael) Chippewa.
      A lifelong resident of the area, Daniel was an agricultural laborer and had been employed by Bull Brothers Farms in Grand Rapids. He was a member of Kateri Tekakwitha Church, the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, and the National Rifle Association. He loved people and serving as a volunteer. Daniel enjoyed fishing and was very fond of children.
      Survivors include five brothers, Albert of Peshawbestown, Russell of Nashville, Tenn., Wayne, of Seattle, Wash., and Venward and Gordon - both of Peshawbestown; and two sisters, Evelyn Felice and Louise LaCroix - both of Peshawbestown.
      Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mabel May, Irene Jackson, and Violet Harter; and two brothers, Ernest and Phillip.
      Visitation will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kateri Tekakwitha Church.
      A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church; Father Andrew Buvala will officiate.
      Burial will be in Kateri Tekawitha Cemetery.
      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the church.
      The Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.

      Herbert W. Kellogg
      Died December 18, 1999
      BUCKLEY - Herbert W. Kellogg, 82, of Buckley, died Saturday.
      Born July 24, 1917, in Buckley, he was the son of Philip and Vera (Nash) Kellogg. On Aug. 13, 1938, he married Susie Durham.
      Herbert served with the U.S. Army in Japan. A member of American Legion Post No. 531 in Copemish, he gave over 50 years of service placing flags on graves at Cornell Cemetery on Memorial Day. A farmer, he also worked at the Traverse City state hospital as a practical nurse. He had been an active member of the Old Engine Show and felt bad when he could no longer work at the show.
      Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Susie of Buckley; a daughter, Rosemary Richard of Buckley; a grandson, Jason Richard of Buckley; sisters, Kathryn Weber of Lake Ann and Marjory Elliott of Ypsilanti; and brothers, Bob (Irma) Dixon of Traverse City, Buell (Ann) Kellogg of Saline, Morley (Jane) Kellogg of Presque Isle, and Roger (Nancy) Kellogg of Canton.
      Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Glen Herbert; and brothers, Murray, Paul, and Jim Kellogg.
      Cremation has taken place.
      Graveside services will be announced and held in the spring at Cornell Cemetery under the auspices of Copemish American Legion Post No. 531.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to Leelanau Memorial Long Term Health Care Center in Northport.
      Arrangements are by Covell-Smith Funeral Home of Kingsley.
