Obituaries
EMMA I. BENNETT, 97, of Grayling, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at Michigan Masonic Home. A retired restaurant-motel owner, she was born June 15, 1902, in Baraga.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, in Grayling. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Grayling.
Funeral services will be held for HOWARD DWIGHT CODDINGTON at 1 p.m. today at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Friends may visit from noon until the time of service.
JEWEL D. PASSMORE, 60, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at her home.
Arrangements will be announced by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
JENNIE L. PETERSEN, 84, of Grayling, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at Mercy Hospital in Grayling. A homemaker, she was born July 8, 1915, in Mio.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, in Grayling. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Grayling.
JACK T. RAINES, 75, of Kalkaska, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at his home. He was born in Charlotte on June 4, 1924.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home; burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Kalkaska.
Mildred Irene Endres
Died December 25, 1999
TRAVERSE CITY - Mildred Irene Endres, 83, died Saturday at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
Born March 7, 1916, in Westfield, Ind., she was the daughter of Willie and Gladys (Jessup) Stephenson. On Sept. 9, 1934, in Frankfort, she married Russell Endres.
A longtime resident of Traverse City, Mildred was a homemaker and a member of Inland Baptist Church. She had formerly been employed as a clerk at the Interlochen post office and as a sales clerk by W.T. Grant Co. Mildred and her husband enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include a daughter, Julia "Judy" (Walter "Bud") Ludka of Traverse City, a sister, Martha Anna Raney of Traverse City; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three nieces; and a nephew.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Russell, on Aug. 12, 1971.
Services will be held in the spring and will be announced by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City which is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society.
Ruth Rodrigues
Died December 24, 1999
TRAVERSE CITY - Ruth Rodrigues, 63, died peacefully Friday surrounded by her loving family at her home.
Born Aug. 9, 1936, in Traverse City, she was the daughter of Leroy and Clarissa (Duell) DeWitt. On Dec. 10, 1961, in Traverse City, she married Joseph S. Rodrigues.
Ruth was a lifelong resident of Traverse City. She retired from United Technologies after many years of employment. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Cherryland Post No. 2780.
Survivors include two children, Debra (Vincent) Kulawiak of Thompsonville and William (Bonnie) Carsten of Traverse City; a sister, Patricia Stratton of Cedar; a brother, Milo DeWitt of Traverse City; nine grandchildren, Greta and Tara Kulawiak of Thompsonville and William, Randall, Melissa, Stephanie, Mathew, Jeremy, and Joey Carsten - all of Traverse City; and several nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her first husband, William J. Carsten, in 1955, her husband Joseph Rodrigues in 1990, and a brother, Fred DeWitt.
Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at the VFW hall on Veterans Drive in Traverse City.
Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be directed to VFW Cherryland Post No. 2780.

Dorothy Sova
Died December 27, 1999
INTERLOCHEN - Dorothy Sova, 47, died Monday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
An occupational therapist, Dorothy was a resident of Interlochen.
Survivors include her husband, Bruce, and three children, Matthew, Josie and Haley.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Redeemer's Lutheran Church.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax Dr., Arlington, VA, 22203-1606.
