Obituaries
JOHN WESLEY POWELL, 58, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at his home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hitesman Funeral Home of Cadillac. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
BARBARA J. WOOD, 66, of Kaleva, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at West Shore Hospital in Manistee. She was born June 13, 1933.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mildred M. (Kraus) Chamberlin
Died November 15, 1999
TRAVERSE CITY - Mildred M. (Kraus) Chamberlin, 80, of Traverse City, died Monday at Grand Traverse Pavilions and is now home with her savior.
Born July 10, 1919, in Manistee, she was the daughter of Lena and Emil Minster of Manistee. In 1937 she married John Kraus, who preceded her in death in 1965. In 1969 she married Dudley Chamberlin, who preceded her in death in 1982.
Mildred has been a resident of Traverse City since 1954 when she and her first husband moved here to operate a branch of the family paint store known as Kraus Paint. She was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran church in Traverse City.
She is survived by a son, John (Jack) Kraus of Traverse City; a sister, Dorothy Raatz of Ludington; brothers, Carl and Ed (Doris) Minster of Manistee and Richard (Betty) Minster of Detroit; two granddaughters, Susan (Kirk) Davis of Lake Ann and Johanna (Robert) Novak of Maple City; four great-grandchildren, Ryan and Kayla Davis and Austin and Aaron Novak. She is also survived by a special friend, Ethel Ely.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William and Emil; and a daughter-in-law, Edna Kraus.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Visitation will also be held from noon until the time of funeral services which will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Donald Engebretson and Rev. C. Jay Koehler officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3:15 p.m. Thursday at Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery where burial will take place.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Alzheimer's Association or Trinity Lutheran Church.
Anna Mary Egeler
Died November 15, 1999
TRAVERSE CITY - Anna Mary Egeler, 82, of Traverse City, died Monday at her home.
Born July 13, 1917, in Long Lake Township, she was the daughter of Frank and Hellen M. (Moravec) Rokos. On Oct. 31, 1933, in Traverse City, she married Herman Egeler.
Anna was a homemaker. She was also employed as a waitress at Rounds Circle Inn for many years and cooked for the VFW. She enjoyed many crafts. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Cherryland Post No. 2780.
She is survived by two sons, Carl J. (Mary) Egeler of Winterhaven, Fla. and Ronald E. (Nancy) Egeler of Traverse City; a daughter, Sandra (David) Hillis of Green Bay, Wis.; one brother, Fredrick "Rick" Rokos; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend and companion, Patricia Egeler. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; parents; three infant children, Albert, Charles and Carol-Jean; five brothers, Edward, Howard, Albert, Clarence "Jack," and Carl "Case" Rokos; and two sisters, Esher Kopchia and Elizabeth Schlagel.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Salvation Army.
Ruth Andrea O'Hara
Died November 15, 1999
MARQUEZ, Texas - Ruth Andrea O'Hara, 57, of Marquez, passed away Monday at her home.
Born Aug. 11, 1942, in Flint, Mich., she was the daughter of Andrew J. and Laura (Morford) O'Hara.
Ruth received her education in Kalkaska, Mich. She was master of Fox Hound, Lone Acre Hunt for many years. She made her home in Marquez for the past eight years, previously living in the Woodlands.
She is survived by her mother, Laura O'Hara of Traverse City, Mich.; son, Phillip Andrew O'Hara of Elkhart, Ind.; two sisters, Maureen Richardson of Traverse City, Mich. and Kathleen O'Hara of Whitecloud, Mich.; one brother, Michael O'Hara of Rapid City, Mich.; and a life mate, Arthur F. Preston of Marquez.
A Wake will be held at 4 p.m. today at the Lone Oak Ranch in Marquez. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, also at the Lone Oak Ranch.
Arrangements were handled by Blair-Stubbs-McCauley Funeral Directors of Franklin, Texas.
