Obituaries

HELEN G. GILLISPIE, 83, of Wellston, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at West Shore Hospital in Manistee. She was born March 17, 1916.
      Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Fernwood Cemetery.
     
      ROBERT D. GUY, 82, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born Sept. 16, 1917.
      Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
     
      KATHRYN E. OHNECK, 41, of Kalkaska, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. She was born March 12, 1958.
      Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Committal services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Southern Cemetery in Central Lake.
     
      GARNET L. TRILLHAASE, 77, of Traverse City, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999.
      A gathering of family and friends will be held at 10 a.m. today at Salvation Army in Traverse City, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today.
      Helen Dost Stallings Hamm
      Died November 14, 1999
      DUBUQUE, Iowa - Helen Dost Stallings Hamm, 78, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, died Sunday at Finley Hospital.
      Born Aug. 25, 1921, in Detroit, she was the daughter of Paul G. and Helene F. (Reinsch) Dost.
      Helen's career as a merchandise buyer in the fashion industry began in the early 1940's at Crowleys in Detroit. In 1943 she moved with her family to Traverse City, Mich. where she married CPO Roy Stallings and was employed at Millikens Department Store. In 1956 Helen moved to Dubuque to accept a position at Stampfers Department Store. A year later she married Vernon A. Hamm, a Dubuque architect. She also worked as a buyer for Rosheks Department Store, the Clothes Horse Boutique and Stevens Smartwear.
      On June 23, 1986, after a long battle with heart disease, she was accepted as a heart transplant recipient at the University of Minnesota Hospitals, the oldest recipient ever in the country at that time. Because of this precious gift of life, Helen strongly supported the organ donation program and presented speeches to educate others on its importance. Helen was also very active in the Finley Hospital Auxiliary where she served as vice president and was a hospital volunteer there for many years. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and belonged to the Ruth Circle.
      Helen also was enthusiastic in her support of the arts. She served on the board for the Dubuque Art Association, loved the symphony, and enjoyed doing art shows with her daughter. She particularly loved returning to her northern Michigan roots every summer with her family and enjoying the beauty of the north woodlands and the Great Lakes, and instilling this appreciation of nature in her children.
      She is survived by her husband, Vern; daughter, Sheryl (Stallings) Cameron; son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Roxane Hamm; granddaughter, Elon Cameron; brother, Robert Dost; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
      She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jeffery; and three brothers, Paul, Fred and John.
      Our angel Helen will be sadly missed here on Earth, but heaven's light is brighter now. We love you.
      Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the funeral services at 11 a.m. today at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1755 Delhi St., Dubuque, Iowa. Rev. George Bauman will officiate.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to University of Minnesota Transplant Program or the Mayo Clinic Cardiac Department.
      Arrangements are being handled by Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, Dubuque, Iowa.

      Francis C. Kedrovicz
      Died November 17, 1999
      TRAVERSE CITY - Francis C. Kedrovicz, 70, of Traverse City, died Wednesday at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Born Aug. 7, 1929, in East Bay Township, he was the son of John and Laura (Courtade) Kedrovicz. On June 8, 1952, in Traverse City, he married Rosemary Kucera.
      Francis served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1950. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, helping his neighbors, especially snowblowing for them, and giving away candy to waitresses at many local restaurants.
      He is survived by his wife, Rosemary, of Traverse City; a daughter, Barbara J. (John) Long of Traverse City; a granddaughter, Heather Forrester of Traverse City; a brother, Robert (Coleen) Kedrovicz of Traverse City; and many stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Doris Monterusso.
      Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with a wake service at 7 p.m. at Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Traverse City with Rev. Paul Megge serving as celebrant. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to Grand Traverse Pavilions or Immaculate Conception Church.
     
      Mabel K. Olson
      Died November 16, 1999
      NORTHPORT - Mabel K. Olson, 89, of Northport, died Tuesday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Born April 20, 1910, in Northport, she was the daughter of Oscar Harry and Elizabeth (Gagnon) Kitchen. On Sept. 26, 1934, in Northport, she married Alfred G. Olson, who preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1970.
      Mabel taught at the Solem School for a few years after graduation. She also worked for Anderson's General Store in Northport for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo and attended Trinity Church in Northport.
      She is survived by three nieces, Jean (Buster) Dame of Northport, Rosalie (James) Hooper of Lansing and Catherine (George) Brown of Traverse City; seven nephews, Warren (Dorothy) Stowe, of Ludington, Dick (Maxine) Stowe of Grand Rapids, James (Iva) Stowe of Northport, Basil (Barbara) Stowe of Northport, Donald (Patricia) Mikowski of Traverse City, Lawrence (Marilyn) Mikowski of Traverse City and George Mikowski of Traverse City; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
      She was preceded in death by her sisters, Gladys Stowe, Mertle Stowe, Frances Mikowski and Marion Teron; and two nieces.
      Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Church of Christ in Northport, where friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service; Rev. Joseph Ripley will officiate. Burial will be in Leelanau Township Cemetery.
      Memorials may be directed to Trinity United Church of Christ.

      Alice Schardt
      Died November 17, 1999
      TRAVERSE CITY - Alice Schardt, 83, a lifelong resident of Traverse City, died Wednesday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Born Jan. 14, 1916, in Traverse City, she was the daughter of Rudolph and Antonia (Cerny) Blazek. On Jan. 4, 1936, in Traverse City, she married Gerald Schardt, who preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1977.
      Alice was employed at Traverse City West Junior High School as support staff for 10 years, retiring in 1980. She was an 8th grade graduate of the original one room Sabin school. Alice was a member of College Terrace Wesleyan and the Boardman Valley Ladies Group. She was a former member of Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Alice enjoyed flower gardening and had worked with Wyatt Gardens.
      She is survived by seven children, Doris Jennette of Traverse City, Ila (Merle) McDiarmid of Irons, Gerald (Sydney) Schardt, Jr. of Sunbury, Ohio, Barbara (Arthur) Vredenburg of Jenison, Richard Schardt of Roswell, NM, Buddy (Catherine) Schardt of Traverse City and Antonia "Toni" (Ronald) Aeschliman of Traverse City; one brother, Rudolph (Norma) Blazek of Squim, Wash.; two sisters, Bessie (Joe) Meyer and Jennie Getchel - both of Traverse City; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
      She was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Blazek, during World War II; a sister, Rose Bohrer; and a grandson, Duane Jennette.
      Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Deacon Alice Christopher officiating and assisted by Alice Schardt's grandson, Deacon Gregory Barber. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to Lake Leelanau 4-H Extension Office in care of Barb Duvall or the American Cancer Society.
     
      Genevieve 'Gene' (Large) Sebright
      Died November 17, 1999
      GRAND RAPIDS - Genevieve "Gene" (Large) Sebright, 84, of Grand Rapids and formerly of Traverse City and the Glen Lake area, died Wednesday.
      Gene was a grade school teacher for many years in the Traverse City Public Schools, retiring in the 1970's.
      She is survived by her children, John (Bonnie) Sebright of Ada; Todd (Mary) Sebright of Akron, Ohio; and Susan (Mark) DeVirgilio of Ada; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted A. Sebright, in 1995.
      Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice of Greater Grand Rapids would be appreciated.
      Arrangements are being handled by Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Service of Grand Rapids.
