Obituaries

VIOLET E. HILL, 85, formerly of Frankfort and most recently of Sault Ste. eMarie, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie.
      Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at Perry Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes in Benzonia, where friends may visit with the family from 3 to 5 p.m. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Crystal Lake Township Cemetery-East.
     
      RICHARD 'RICH' A. LYLE, 74, of Frankfort, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at his home.
      Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday with a Rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. at Perry Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes in Benzonia. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Ann Catholic Church in Frankfort.
     
      VIRGINIA B. MCLEAN, 82, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Catholic Church. Burial will be in Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery. A complete obituary will appear in Sunday's edition of the Record-Eagle.
     
      EARL NARUM, 73, of Elk Rapids, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at his home.
      Arrangements will be announced by Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      MARY RUTH SIMONS, 69, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at her home. She was born Sept. 3, 1930.
      No services are planned at this time. Arrangements were handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City.
     
      Lillian Bieganowski
      Died November 13, 1999
      NEOSHO, Mo. - Lillian Bieganowski, 88, of Neosho, Mo., passed away peacefully Saturday at her son's home in Neosho where she had lived for the past two years.
      Lillian was a site coordinator at the East Jordan Senior Center and spent many years in and around Elk Rapids, Mich. She portrayed Mrs. Claus in several northern Michigan communities.
      Lillian was the mother of two sons, Melvin and Martin; grandmother to seven; and had 11 great-grandchildren.
      Memorial services will be arranged at a later date. Arrangements are pending at Clark Funeral Home in Neosho, Mo.

      Clarence J. Hebert
      Died November 16, 1999
      KALKASKA - Clarence J. Hebert, 83, of Kalkaska, died Tuesday at his home.
      Born Jan 8, 1916, in Bayfield, Wis., he was the son of the late Fred and Margaret Grant Hebert. On Dec. 10, 1941, he married the former Lucille Morrin, who survives.
      Clarence resided in Mt. Clemens until 1981 when he moved to Kalkaska County. He was employed as a rose grower prior to his retirement and he enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing pool. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a life member of Land O' Lakes VFW Post No. 8684 and St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church.
      Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, John Hebert of Eastpointe; three daughters, Eileen (Howard) Denryter of Sterling Heights, Mary (Russell) Chambers of Vacaville, Calif. and Linda (Jere) Brown of Lake Ann; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
      He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
      Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Wolfe Funeral Home of Kalkaska where an evening service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Kalkaska with Father Jim Holtz serving as celebrant. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery with military rites under the auspices of Land O' Lakes VFW Post No. 8684.

      Joel W. Tvardek
      Died October 13, 1999
      MATLACHA, Fla. - Joel W. Tvardek, 60, formerly of Traverse City, Mich., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 13, after a lengthy illness with his family at his side.
      Joel was born in Birmingham, Mich. and grew up in Bay County before joining the naval forces in 1958.
      In 1965 Joel moved to Traverse City with his family and worked in the refrigeration business for 15 years before moving to Matlacha, Fla. in 1982. He was an active member of the Pine Island Moose Lodge No. 1954 and the American Legion Post No. 136.
      He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Susan, of Matlacha, Fla.; two sons, Jeffery (Shellee) Tvardek of Grawn and Matthew Tvardek of Pine Island, Fla.; three daughters, Kris (Kelly) Ryon of Buckley, Jill (Jim) Anderson of Interlochen and Wendy Diehl of Traverse City; and ten grandchildren who will miss him greatly, Brannon, Warren and Lean Tvardek, Nicole Tvardek, Katie and Lindsay Ryon, Whitney and Bailey Anderson, Gabrielle Diehl and Amanda Tvardek. He is also survived by three sisters, Jo Ann Pero of Kingsley, Darlene (Fred) Jezewski of Auburn and Pamela (Geff) Arthur of Midland; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
      Joel was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Emma; a son, Joel W. in 1992; and a sister, LouAnn Moran in May 1999.
      Services were held Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, in Cape Coral, Fla.
      Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at 11562 Island Ave., Matlacha, Fla. 33993.
