JEFFEREY B. NEYER, 21, of Traverse City, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at home.
Arrangements will be announced by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
CLARA BELLE OVERSMITH, 84, of Mancelona, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at Tendercare of Traverse City.
The family will receive friends from noon until the 4 p.m. funeral service Friday at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in Mancelona. A graveside service will follow on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Lakeview Cemetery in Nashville, Mich.
Adrian Cornell Buyze, Sr.
Died November 23, 1999
DALLES, Ore. - Adrian Cornell Buyze, Sr., 72, a resident of The Dalles, Ore., died at his home on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999.
He was born July 25, 1927, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the eldest son of seven children to Adrian Leonard and Virginia Flora (Gates) Buyze. He grew up and graduated from Creston High School in Grand Rapids. After high school, he went directly into the Navy, serving as a fireman on the USS Oglala. He married Jean Bock on May 15, 1948, in Alba, Mich.
Adrian worked as a farmer and machinist, founding two of his own tool and die businesses. He also raised and trained racing Quarter Horses at his farm in Coldwater, Mich. The Buyze's moved to The Dalles, Ore. in 1989, to be near family.
Adrian was active with The Dalles American Legion Post No. 19, having served as commander, adjutant and chaplain, also serving as two-term commander of American Legion District No. 5. He was a member of the Dalles Moose and Eagles Lodges, board member of Meals on Wheels and active with his horse and carriage business.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jean of The Dalles; his children and their spouses, Adrian C. and Jessie Buyze Jr. of The Dalles, Terrance and Cheryl Buyze of Traverse City, Mich., Randy and Mary Buyze of Mancelona, Mich., Virginia and Dr. Mark D. Czarnecki of The Dalles and Amy and Lawrence L. Jones of Oakridge, Ore.; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his siblings, Vurlyn Jerry Buyze of Grand Rapids, Mich., Kendrick Buyze of Rockford, Mich., Tom Buyze of Spokane, Wash. and Charlene Cole of Cedar Springs, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Morgan and Dorbert Buyze.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 26, at The Dalles Parklawn Cemetery. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
Gladys Lindberg Johnson
Died October 31, 1999
NORTHBROOK, Ill. - Gladys Lindberg Johnson, 86, of Northbrook, Ill. and formerly of Traverse City, Mich., died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, in Northbrook.
Gladys and her husband, Ben, moved to Traverse City in 1950, building a home on West Bay Shore Drive. Gladys was a founding member of West Bay Covenant Church for over 20 years. She was active on the Norris School PTA board, the Traverse City Garden Club and volunteered as a Gray Lady at the Traverse City State Hospital. She also maintained and rented four cottages on West Bay Shore Drive.
After returning to the Detroit area in the mid 1960s, Gladys and Ben once again made Traverse City their retirement home from 1985 until 1993, when they moved to a retirement community in Northbrook. They enjoyed many years near their children and grandchildren in Illinois before Ben's death in 1996.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Jean (Bud) Palmberg and Gloria (Jim) Wildenradt; grandchildren, Jeff (Tami) Palmberg, Christine (Michael) Dotson, Linnea, Corinne and Clark Wildenradt; six grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides her husband, Ben, she was also preceded in death by a son, Benny.
Innumerable memories of her loving life and dedication to a faithful God will help sustain all those whom she leaves behind. Praise God for her life.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at West Bay Covenant Church in Greilickville. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church.
Alonzo W. McCrackin
Died November 23, 1999
TRAVERSE CITY - Alonzo W. McCrackin, 93, of Traverse City, died Tuesday at Bortz Health Care in Traverse City.
Born March 22, 1906, in Onandaga, he was the son of Clarence M. and Georgia (Hayden) McCrackin. On Nov. 13, 1948, in Baldwin, he married Helen Barrow Carpenter.
A longtime resident of Traverse City, Alonzo was employed as a pharmacist at Munson Medical Center for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Traverse City; five children, Arlene Moses of Grawn, Herbert (Betty) Carpenter of Central Lake, Joyce (Ottis) Burns of Birds Nest, Va., Daniel (Judy) Carpenter of Midland and Margaret (Tom) Gatwood of Pacifica, Calif.; a nephew, Tom Baty of Calif., 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marion; and three grandsons.
The family will greet friends from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service Friday at Hibbard Funeral and Cremation Service in Traverse City with Pastor Jack Steenbergh officiating.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Father Fred Foundation.
Gillian Woodburne
Died November 19, 1999
ST. PETERS, Mo. - Gillian Woodburne, infant daughter of James and Kirstin Woodburne of St. Peters, Mo., died Friday at the Children's Hospital in St. Louis.
Besides her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Jim and Sue Woodburne of Traverse City, Mich. and Richard and Peggotty Christensen of Phoenix, Ariz.
No services are planned. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be directed to Children's Health Fund in care of 1 Children's Place, St. Louis, MO 63110 with checks payable to Gillian Woodburne Fund.
Arrangements were handled by Baue Funeral Home in St. Charles, Mo.
