Obituaries


      LILLY BARHITTE, 74, of Honor, passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at Birchwood Nursing Center in Traverse City.
      Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Home in Muskegon. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeal home. A full obituary will appear in the Wednesday Record-Eagle. Local arrangements are by Bennett-Barz Funeral Home of Beulah.
     
      LLOYD F. FREEMAN, 81, of Bellaire, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire. He was born Sept. 23, 1918.
      No services are planned. Arrangements are by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
     
      JO ANN MAYNARD, 61, of Alden, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. She was born Dec. 18, 1937.
      Private family burial will take place in Helena Township Cemetery in Alden. Arrangements are by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
     
      HOWARD C. RUNYAN, 67, of Bellaire, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire. He was born May 9, 1932.
      A private family burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Bellaire. Arrangements are by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
     
      SHARON E. (MURRIS) VANDERPOOL, 61, of Grayling, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. A homemaker, she was born Aug. 10, 1938, in Adrian.
      A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Vanderpool residence, 2822 W. County Road 612, Maple Forest Township. Arrangements are by Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, in Grayling.
      James Emmett Arnold
      Died November 28, 1999
      HONOR - James Emmett Arnold, 88, died Sunday in Frankfort.
      He was born April 10, 1911, in Muskegon and moved to Honor in 1975. He married Katheryn Vitek in 1935. She preceded him in death in 1952. He married Ethel L. Hunter in Angola, Ind., on July 3, 1954.
      James was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Frankfort and was a life member of the Elks Club. He was employed at Teledyne Continental Motors until his retirement.
      Survivors include his wife, Ethel, and his granddaughter, Colleen J. Baker of Chicago.
      He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Marlene Baker in 1980.
      Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lee Funeral Home in Muskegon Heights. Funeral services will follow immediately at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Norton Cemetery.

      Jefferey Bryan 'Jeff' Neyer
      Died November 24, 1999
      TRAVERSE CITY - Jefferey Bryan "Jeff" Neyer, 21, beloved son, died Wednesday at his home in Traverse City.
      Born July 16, 1978, in Manistee, he was adopted in September 1978 by Kenneth and Diane Neyer of Traverse City.
      Jeff attended Pathfinder School, St. Francis Elementary and Old Mission Elementary. He was a 1997 graduate from Traverse City High School.
      In 1997 Jeff was the recipient of an award from the state of Michigan Competitive Scholarship Program for outstanding academic achievement. He was also listed in the 1997 National Who's Who of High School Students.
      Jeff attended Northwestern Michigan College and planned on continuing his studies in the spring semester.
      An extremely bright and talented young man, he enjoyed writing, drawing, art, computers, programming, making amateur videos and designing video games. His hobbies included skydiving. He was a certified scuba diver and found great enjoyment in riding roller coasters. Jeff had many pets and loved animals, especially his new kitten, Spoon.
      Survivors include his father, Kenneth, his mother, Diane (Lievense), his sister, Katherine, his maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Lievense of Traverse City, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
      Also surviving are his biological parents, Britt and Kelly Bradford, and his sister, Ashley Marie of Marilla, Mich., as well as their relatives.
      Jeff was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather.
      Cremation has taken place.
      Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Jospeh Catholic Church of Mapleton.
      A memorial funeral Mass will be co-celebrated at 2:30 Saturday at the church by the Rev. Patrick Barrett of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Rev. James Williams of St. Anne's Catholic Church of Mackinac Island.
      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Grand Traverse Area Right to Life, P.O. Box 1165, Traverse City, MI 49685-1165, or to Child and Family Services Adoption Agency of Traverse City, 3785 Veterans Dr., Traverse City, MI 49684.
      Arrangements are by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
      Genevieve V. Romanowski
      Died November 29, 1999
      TRAVERSE CITY - Genevieve V. Romanowski, 77, died Monday at Munson Medical Center.
      Previously a resident of Detroit, she had lived in Traverse City since 1978. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and of the Polish Women's Alliance of America. Genevieve was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed providing for her family.
      Survivors include her husband, Alfred M. Romanowski of Traverse City; four children, Pauline Romanowski and Patricia Romanowski of Traverse City, and Richard Romanowski and Alfred (Joanne) Romanowski Jr. of Eastpoint; and two grandchildren, Christie and Alan Romanowski.
      Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Delphine Gaffke.
      Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City; a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
      Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christ the King Catholic Church; celebrant will be the Rev. Edwin Thome.
      Burial will be in Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery.
