If you're a hockey fan, Traverse City is a great place to be.
TC is home to the Detroit Red Wings' pre-season training camp, where area residents and fans from around the country welcome the team to Centre Ice. If you're lucky, you might see one of the Wings around town, fishing on the bay, or getting in some golf at an area course.
When the Wings aren't in town, you can still catch plenty of hockey in Traverse City at Centre Ice. The Traverse City North Stars, a Junior "A" level hockey club and a member of the North American Hockey League, played their inaugural season in 2005-06, and is looking forward to season number two. Check this space for the latest news on the Stars:
That's not all ... Traverse City is home to the 2005-06 Division 2 state hockey champions, the Traverse City Central Trojans, and also boasts several youth hockey clubs for boys and girls, as well as adult amateur leagues for both men and women.
Traverse City plays host to several well-known races, including the Bayshore Marathon, which drew more than 3,000 runners this year for its 24th annual race. Check our 2006 Area Road Race Schedule for upcoming running and walking events.
The newest member of the Frontier Independent Professional Baseball League, Traverse City's minor league Beach Bums play at Wuerfel Park at Chum's Corners, just south of Traverse City on U.S. 31. Check the Record-Eagle's Beach Bums page for the latest news on the team.
